I just found out my school is one of 15 universities doing this Virtual Evals program this year for sending the composite letter and copies of letters of recommendation to med schools. Apparently they scan your stuff into a PDF file, accessible only to the schools to which you apply, and the med schools then download your stuff from there. Does anyone know anything about this program? It seems like scanned documents will look crappy by the time the schools get them, and who knows if all of the schools will really know how to use the program. Any experience/ info about this program? Does anyone have any advice? help? please?

Sounds convenient.

I used a similar system for this past application cycle and found it extremely convenient. Didn't hinder my application at all (8 interviews).

The letters were readily accessible, and if necessary I could have a package of the letters sent automatically if the school wanted it (some did).

I think with your situation, since the University is handling the letters, it is more reputable than the commercial service I utilized.

Good luck. I don't think it will hinder you in the end. Just make sure to call the schools that have been sent the link to mak sure they have the letters, and have been able to view them successfully. Again, best of luck.

👍 :luck:

Thanks for your reply. They said I'll get emailed each time a school downloads my evaluations. I was just worried that everything might look ugly after scanning, and that the med schools may be confused by it.

Maybe you go to Duke? Last year, Duke became the first undergrad to offer LOR's to medical schools through a secure website, from which they could download them. I have no idea if other undergrads have implemented the same type of program for this year. I applied last year as a Duke student, and I loved the system. Everything was simplified and easy. Schools had no problems downloading the letters, and my pre-health office mailed them directly to those schools which prefered hard copies. You shouldn't be worried about this at all. In fact, you should be ecstatic because it makes it easier for you and allows your schools to obtain your LOR's much more quickly than they would otherwise.

Thanks very much for your words of wisdom! Sounds like it'll work out fine.

I think Yale is moving to this system. I don't know who else is among the 15, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Seriously. It is a much more convenient and hassle free system. Thank the Gods that you won't have to track down your letter writers everytime you want a letter sent out.

Letters can be one of the most frustrating things in this application process. This is one way that hassle can be eliminated. 👍 🙂

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the help.
