Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum, but I would appreciate any of your opinions. I've applied to Loma Linda, OHSU, U of P, and UCSF. My stats are,

3.94 GPA, 3.90 Science GPA, BS in Biochemistry
24 AA
24 TS
17 PAT (Ouch, I know, be honest with me and my chances)
29 OChem
23 GChem
23 Bio
23 Reading
21 QR

So, I'm an Oregon Resident, so hopefully those stats will get me into it. The schools that I'm most interested in are U of P and UCSF. I know UCSF is a state school, so it will be very hard. I also know that U of P really looks at the PAT alot, which I totally bombed. So, be honest with me, and give me your opinion. Thanks a ton.

I would be a little worried if I were you...actually I'd be freaking out

Yeah...better apply to some more schools

You're going to have a bit of a tough time getting in with those stats. I recommend re-taking your DAT...that may open up a couple doors...if you score higher that is. 👍

You can't be serious 🙄

Hey Jim,

Well, I'm being totally serious, because my PAT is so low. I would rather have had a more balanced score. And plus, I'm not a California resident, so I was more talking about my chances to U of P and UCSF.

of course you have a good shot at those schools, stellar gpa and AA/TS, not thaaat bad PAT, stop posting this sort of thread, makes you seem like a douche.

Lol...can I say "show off"?

honestly, i think you have a decent shot at ucsf. they only accept approx. 11 out of staters, so i hope you have some incredible ECs to offset the poor PAT. For UoP, i have never heard of anyone getting in with a 17 PAT. maybe you'll be the first. Good luck!

I don't know....maybe if you had a 27 on RC you'd have a better chance.

For as smart as some people in these forums seem to be due to their stats...they often lack simple research skills.

UOP 30% is usually from out of state
UCSF 12.5% is usually from out of state

Your chances of being one of those 30% or 12.5% isn't bad since you have good scores. If your a minority with a good story about obstacles and poverty in life, your chances at UCSF increase. UOP may not love the 17, but they'll probably overlook it since you far outreached the academic stuff.

You also didn't list any other activities or extracurriculars, which might mean you are a reclusive bookworm...in which case...UOP may not take you based on personality alone.

that's my 2 cents.

Also, chill out.

that's an added 3rd cent

Lol...can I say "show off"?

First of all, I would just like to apologize, I really dont' mean to "show off." I'm sure none of you believe me, but hear me out.

I am new to posting on this forum, but I AM NOT new to reading other posts on this forum. In fact, I've been reading various posts for the last 1.5-2 years. The reason why I was asking for opinions, was because I've seen tons of people get rejected from these schools that had similar scores or EVEN better scores than I did. Plus, it makes it worse how I'm not a California Resident. It just seemed like I was in the same boat as the tons of other HIGHLY qualified students who got rejected from those schools.

So, sorry if I offended anyone, that honestly wasn't my intention

Thanks for the advice. See, I would've loved to get DAT scores like you, all good and balanced. That ugly a$$ 17 is still killing me. Thanks anyways.

chill out dude...you're not seeing the big picture here. These "highly qualified" people didn't get rejected by every school, just some schools. I'm sure you'll get in to at least 1 with those stats...you seem bent on UOP and UCSF, but guess what, not all of us will get into our dream school. Why not apply to UCLA also??? They LOOOOVE smarty pants, and they take in about 12 out-of-staters.

Hey rash,

Wow, your a very strong applicant, those are some amazing numbers. but i would suggest you call up UOP and maybe email UCSF (they almost never pick up calls, they do however reply to emails) to see what your chances are. UOP is generally pretty honest about it. UCSF doesnt offer counseling so i don't know. coincidentially my top choices are also UCSF and UOP, i guess we have a thing for SF eh? gl.

Yeah, you also have some awesome stats. Wish my DAT was as balanced as yours. I think you should get into both schools. Yes i totally agree, SF is awesome. I'm from Oregon, so I love the similar weather in SF.

Man, if I had a 3.9, I would so freak out.... you must've cried when you got that single B that DESTROYED your perfect GPA

You might be screwed for UoP but that's about it (they told me I would be waitlisted with a 17 PAT)... but you're probably gonna get flamed for starting this post.. The only way you're truly screwed is if you have serious personality issues that show up in an interview (????)... anyway, Good Luck!

if you think ur not going to get in...then there is no hope for a lot of other people ...like me🙁😳

I appreciate everyone's advice/replies. By no means am I saying that you are or anyone else is screwed. Don't worry, I'm not a closet nerd or whatever, it's just that after looking at so many other posts, it seemed like people were getting rejected even with Great DAT's and Great GPA's. And I dont' mean like 1 or 2 people. I saw several posts from others that said they didn't even get an interview or whatever. So I was just wondering exactly what my chances were. Gracias.

I'd say apply to more schools. Your academic stats are obviously EXCELLENT, but since you are out of state you may still face stiff competition at the UCs. What about USC? It's in California too!

with those scores, you should consider a career in dental assisting...

Haha all the ridicules...

I guess you can tell by now that a lot of people would kill to have your stats.. Seriously, a sliiight blemish like a 17 on the PATs isn't going to change your acceptance to dental schools. Rest assured, you're pretty guaranteed acceptance

If I were you, I would add one or two schools to be safe.
