hi all,
If anyone could give me some guidance with my application I would be grateful. I am applying to two schools in the Caribbean: Ross and Saba. My first question is which one would be a better choice? How are the living conditions at these two schools and how hard is it really going from a first world country to study in a third world country? Is a full course in English required for someone who's lived in Canada all their life?
Also, why do they ask in the application how you are planning to pay for your schooling?
If someone could give me some help/tips on writing my personal statement it would certainly take a load off my mind. Are there sample personal statements I can view?
Any help would be great and thank you

Sharifan... I'll leave the particular school comments to those that been there and seen them - I don't like to speculate!!!

I have one note on the personal statement - is basically a writen explanation of what made you interested in medicine, what do you think you bring in the profession that can have a positive impact, and what do you believe are all the reasons that should make a school grant you acceptance.
Now, if you are looknnig for a cookie cutter statement you better think again - I would sugest you seat down and answer those points I mentioned honestly and intelligently, and than develop a nice organized document that represents those ideas in a professional and articulate fashion.

One things that can open the doors for you beyond grades and other stats is how worthy of an individual you are and this statement is your chance to shine and convince them that you're better than someone else looking for that spot!
Good luck and stay true to yourself - is the only way!

Ross would get you off the island faster, if you are up to it i guess.

I don't go to either, but I hear saba is doing some good things, especially on the boards. Even so, I would take Ross, and I tried twice, but got rejected both times. I would take Ross because they have title 4 funding for financial aid, and the others things are pretty much a wash in my opinion. Best wishes!

SABA has smaller class size (much smaller) than ROSS and the school seems to produce very competent physicians, judging from specialties graduates have obtained. This is not to say that ROSS does not do the same. I guess it depends on your preference (lagre vs small class, etc.). It should also be noted that it is a little bit more difficult to get accepted at SABA in general due to the small class size. If I remember correctly SABA does not require MCAT (for those that have good GPA) but if your GPA is not competitive, they will ask for the MCAT score. Anyway, I am neither ROSS nor SABA student, so my information might not be completely accurate.

Both schools are good. I've met 2 Ross grads and they liked it. Saba is less tuition and smaller classes. Ross has better clinicals and some states are easier to get a residency like Texas. Both Islands suck as far as things to do. Yeah as was mentioned you get to Miami in 14 months and finish there whereas Saba your here for the full 20 months. Saba might do last semester in the US, there is talk of Boston area but who knows. They don't want to disrupt the product, meaning they like the scores and the way things are going without a US 5th semester. Who knows how things are going to work out. But either school is a good choice.
