HEY all! =) Just the normal.. wamc thread =) and i know that there is a WAMC thread, but i don't think people are as motivated to respond, like they are on here 🙂 So.. I would really appreciate ANY feedback, good or bad.

THANKS EVERYONE :meanie:

SOME HX:

-Cumulative GPA: 3.70-3.75
-M/S of ~3.5.
-PCAT Comp: 70

~150-200 hours of volunteer work in the community, such as meals on wheels, tutoring, and hospice work.

-30 hours of job shadowing in a hospital pharmacy, and at least 70-100 hours of volunteering in a pharmacy (local, independent)

I have ~110 credits, most of which are from a community college in the area. I will have 2 associates when I apply, at least one of them in science, if not both.

-REALLY good LOR's (manager, orgo prof, gen chem prof, math prof, maybe pharmacist after done w/ volunteering)

-deans list every semester of college (~10), transfer scholarship to wayne, 2 other scholarships also (total amount = $5700 scholarship money)

In explanation of so many courses at a CC--

A year or two ago, I talked to a lady from one of my instates pharmacy schools (Ferris), and she told me it would be better for me to just complete classes at my CC, and save money, even if I had over 100 credits, bc I had a competitive edge gpa-wise. Wingate also said to just take them at a CC..?

OH! Schools applying to:

-wayne state
-ferris
-lipscomb
-belmont
-wingate
-sullivan
-hawaii
-shenandoah

I realize I'm at a disadvantage not having a bachelors, but I don't know how much this will affect me, and would love any input.

So i'm just trying to get a feel for things.. thanks again. :xf:

hmmm, I don't think I've really seen a pre-pharm resume exactly like this before. Point #1 - you have a chance. Point #2 - Having a bachelors isn't necessarily a huge advantage, but does help some in my opinion (my school requires a bachelors degree). Point #3 - You're pharmacy experience hours look great.

Now, I'm not sure I've heard of too many applicants going from community college to pharmacy school. Yes, CC's are cheap but they're also universally easier than the majority of universities; this could put up a lot of red flags. I'm not sure if you know people on the admissions committees where you're applying but if you were an unknown to them they would most likely be worried if you could handle the rigor of pharmacy classes. To make up for this negative (in my opinion), they would probably then look to see if you took on difficult courseloads and succeeded. Your GPA is good but since the majority of your credit hours come from CC then your GPA is going to be inflated compared to the majority of the other applicants.

Your PCAT is acceptable. It's not great but definitely high enough to get into a wide range of pharmacy schools. Most pharmacy schools averages are in the 70s or 80s. You would be on the low end but if a pharmacy school has an average, say of 75, then of course there are plenty of students in there with a 70 composite. If you raise your PCAT that would also help diffuse opinions of your ability to succeed in pharmacy school so I would also focus on that as a key part of your application.

Last bit of advice. You can also look into "start-up schools" if you are worried about your chances. Pharm schools that have just been established in the last few years are not yet accredited schools (it takes years to become accredited) and typically have much lower standards for their entering classes so they can create a foundation of students.

Hope this helps.
