taking risks is correlated with cocaine addiction, you don't want to be a coke addict do you

Should I take a risk with something that will reduce my overall GPA to a 3.3? and my science gpa to an even lower score?

First semester my gpa was 3.67 and second semester it was a 3.5...i'm in my third semester now and there is a risk of my gpa dropping to a 3.3.

of course, this may not happen...but is it even worth the risk? Because it's either go with the semester's classes or take a leave of absence.

Well this is vague...

Every semester you take the "risk" of receiving bad grades. Just study as hard as you can and your grades will prevail, but do not take a leave of absence just because you are scared. I am assuming these are required courses which means you are going to have to do it anyways.

Medical school is HARD. More difficult than anything you're taking right now.

You need to show us that you can thrive here. Avoiding the hard coursework will only hurt yourself.

The reason I ask whether I should consider taking a leave of absence and dropping my classes is because I missed 2 full weeks of classes and I'm currently enrolled in Organic Chem. and Biochem.

I had to leave campus due to an emergency family situation and that's why I'm behind :/ Now, my first orgo test is in a week and I haven't even bought the textbook...So as you can see, my gpa is a major concern right now and if I don't get straight A's in organic and biochem, it drops down to a 3.3. I would usually just continue classes from the third week onwards, but apparently organic builds on previous material and my professor said that it would be pretty hard to catch up unless I was one extremely motivated A+ student (which I'm not).

Is it better to take a leave in my case to save the GPA? Or should I take a risk and just study as much as I can? What do u guys think?

A lot goes into these kind of decisions. Can you still drop classes to reduce your workload to catch back up with O Chem? I would not take a leave of absence regardless. If I were you I would be arranging courses to make sure you remain in school and still do well. You might want to think about taking biochem or O chem this summer. If you can rebound, especially since school just started recently, and you have this story it will be a great addition to your app. As mentioned above, there is a lot that goes into this decision and only you can decide. Obtaining a B instead of an A is not the end of the world either especially if a hardship shows up like it has. Best of luck with your decision.

I can't drop or add any more classes without getting a W and I'm only at 13 credits anyway, so dropping would not make me a full-time student. I haven't gotten a single A so far in any of my sciences, so that is why I am worried about getting a B this time :/

Another option I have is to take courses in my hometown. That way, I can deal with my situation and still not lose a year in completing my degree...

Do you have to decide before the first orgo exam? If there is no hard deadline for withdrawal you may as well wait until after the first exam and see how you do. Depending on how it is taught, orgo (especially the very beginning of orgo) is not too bad actually, and you could recover.

Personally I think that taking the entire semester off because you missed 2 weeks is rather extreme. Yes, it will be a challenge and you will have to work extra hard for a few weeks to catch up, but it is not that bad. If you get asked about the time off at an interview, I doubt they will be happy with you saying "I missed two weeks so I quit for the next 4 months."
