Hello everyone,

I am a non-science major and kind of had to graduate asap so I did not have time to take biochem.
Among DO schools, how many schools that don't require biochem?? If you could give me a list I would appreciate it. I have my own list but I just wanted to make sure.

P.S. I graduated so I can't take biochem or retake other science classes. My stats are low..I messed up my last semester so my science gpa went down. And since I was a non-science major and didn't take lots of science classes sgpa went down big time after my last semester. :S My sgpa now is 3.08 with cgpa 3.6. MCAT is 28. I applied late as well. If I reapply this coming cycle, do you think I stand a chance..? So far I have not had any ii invites but a few pre interview holds. Thanks !!!!!

Go to AACOM's website. Download the guidebook. It's all in there.

I'm pretty sure most schools don't require biochem.
The only school i can think of that requires biochem is MSUCOM.

I believe Liberty requires Biochem / Molecular Bio as well.

On the other side of things, just find a community college or closest 4-year that offers biochem and take it. Just because you graduated doesn't mean you can't still take classes.

lol you can definitely take classes even after graduating. The AACOM site has schools and their requirements.

UNECOM only requires 1 semester of biochemistry WITHOUT lab. whew....

You need it before you matriculate, but can be accepted without.
Does this go for the 12 hours of biology as well? I only have 8 hours of biology. I have biochemistry and all the other requirements though. KC has odd pre-reqs, but I would really like to get the chance to apply there, just not enough to take another bio class just to get the chance to apply.

Yes, all must be fulfilled before matriculation.

^Ditto. OP, you CAN still take science classes (including biochem) after graduating, and they might even help boost your GPA. I'm taking A&P and Biochem on a non-degree status because I felt they would be beneficial and I am a reapplicant, so I have the extra time, I thought why not make good use of it, eh? I also work at a college, so taking the classes at the same school is literally a walk down the hall 😉

Right, but you can still be admitted pending completion of the extra biology course, correct? Any idea if this applies to the Touros and Western with regards to the social science requirements?

i am pretty sure KCUMB doesnt require biochem

EDIT: never mind!

Where did you apply? Seems like you should've gotten in somewhere. Was your school list too "top-heavy"?

3.6cum 3.1sci and 28mcat seem pretty competitive for the "lower" tier schools.

I'm going to DMU in the fall and am taking an online biochem right now. It's really not that bad, especially since I'm not taking any other courses

I applied kind of late but the schools that I applied to were : Marian, Alabama, AT Still Kirksville & Arizona, Pikeville, Midwestern AZ, Rowan, Ohio Heritage, Philadelphia, Western(Pomona). I got rejected by Kirksville and Marian after being on hold... and I have not heard anything from other schools yet. I think it's just matter of time since it's already March..:S Anyways, what schools would you recommand if I reapply this coming cycle? Thanks in advance!

I would apply to the newer schools like: Liberty, Marian, Campbell, and VCOM's Alabama campus if they get it opened in time. Also apply to some of the "lower" tier like LECOM's, VCOM's, LMU-DMU, and maybe even NOVA since you have a strong MCAT.

I don't think your stats are bad, a little of balance, but definitely not bad. Keep your head up, keep pulling down clinical/volunteer/shadowing hours, and like others have said before; you should consider taking biochem (or another science) at a community college. That should take care of the "lowish" science GPA.

Do those things and I guarantee you'll get an acceptance somewhere.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your help!

Not a problem. I'm sure you know this, but APPLY EARLY! Sometimes it is better to wait an application cycle just so you can have everything ready the day it all opens up to the applicant pool. This is going to be a huge asset to you, so be prepared.

I'm taking it through a community college in ND
