Okay guys...I was banking on matching into a catagorical program but instead matched into an Advanced 3-year spot. I am a DO student and don't have an osteopathic internship lined up. Does anyone have advice for me. I called everywhere today looking for an AOA approved internship and all the left-over spots went into the MD match. I'm screwed, depressed and don't want to leave my family to find an internship. Should I just go through the scramble tomorrow and then try to get one AOA approved?

Please help me guys.

Not sure what you are looking for or where you want to do an internship but I have a friend doing an osteopathic internship at Palemtto General Hospital in Miami. He said it is a great program and what more could you ask for...you would be in freakin Miami! Lived there myself during medical school and really miss it! He told me they had some openings for next year.

Just scramble - all the cool kids are doing it....ok I mean I'm doing it. What's the difference between getting a categorical year approved and getting another pgy-1 program approved. Cheer up - it's not the end of the world, at least you matched advanced. That means your cup is 3/4 full! Did you call your new program and ask for some tips on the local market (per se)? Do you feel better now? I definitely think I could be a motivational speaker.

When you find out where you matched advanced, simply call them up and ask them point blank if they can help find you an intern year. usually this means getting to move to the area (ie same city) or close by and getting easily plugged in. Otherwise just scramble for an intern year somewhere. Congrats on matching!
