I took twice this year
May MCAT: 30
July MCAT: 35

I'm a CA resident (ORM) with a 3.69 GPA. I have no idea where to apply now, considering the disparity between my scores. My AMCAS is already verified. Please help!

Wow I'm in the same situation except I got a 31 in May. CA resident. Did you take it May 31st and then July 24th?

And I basically have your list except for Iowa and Georgetown but I added a couple reaches today (UCSF, NYU, Columbia, etc.). I turned in my secondaries already for the schools that have a 31ish MCAT average though. I don't know if that's helpful but we think alike! 🙂

Haha this is crazy! But no, I took them 5/22 and 7/25. I'm glad to hear you've already completed those secondaries 🙂 How did you decide on your reach schools?

Honestly just schools that I would go to in a heartbeat. UCSF bc I'm already from and love the area, Columbia and NYU b/c I've always wanted to live in NY. Not really your typical premed answer but all of them are amazing schools that accept OOS so I'm sure they will strong in whatever speciality I choose to pursue and have plenty of research. 🙂
But for the other target schools, it was based on stats, OOS acceptance rates, and a focus/mission on serving underserved populations.

I just didn't add these schools before because a 31 wasn't even 10th percentile lol.

No, that's wonderful! Med school is a great opportunity to experience living in a place you've always wanted to be in 🙂 With respect to choosing target schools, how are you identifying them stats-wise?? Are you using your second score, or a few points below? That's my main issue right now.

Focus on OOS schools with a median MCAT of 32. You know you will apply to all the CA schools anyway!

Oh I used MSAR and I used my first score because that was what I applied with. I thought my score was a fluke bc it was very different from my average which is why I took it a second time, in order to apply to higher stat schools. But generally my target scores I aimed for schools that had an average of 31 (or less or higher but no more than 33). Considering that you haven't completed apps yet I think anywhere around a 33 average would be a target and anything around a 35-36 average would be a reach.

Hurry up and get those secondaries in. Time's a ticking!

You just made yourself a more attractive candidate to quite a few more schools. Congrats!
