spending all ur money on apps versus the retake is not the smartest choice. i suggest you get a job now to start saving to retake the DAT and reapply next year.

um no. I already have a job and have to pay for something called bills.. something you may or may not have.

clever. no matter how many jobs and bills you have, you got a 14 in BIO and a 17 AA. Dont you know thats a huge sign for a retake when you get a 14 in arguably the most important section of the DAT? what state are you from? Because unless your state school has low dat averages, you have a up mountain battle.

sorry didn't mean to come off hostile lol.. just explaining the situation.. i am a rhode island resident.

This woulda been more productive if you asked us BEFORE dropping thousands of dollars applying to 38 schools.

Your odds for acceptance are low (14 in Bio)

applying to 38 schools and hoping someone will accept you with an extremely low DAT is not the solution. Plan to retake ASAP if you want a legit chance of getting in this cycle. what were the schools you applied to? i am assuming that you wasted PLENTY of money applying to OOS unfriendly schools.

So what happens if you get 38 interviews? Obviously hypothetically speaking...

come one man take it easy. I applied to all the oos friendly schools listed in the sticky plus all of the private schools.

well if it sounds the slightest bit better..... i am not a bio major and underestimated that section.. it was mad random

yesterday..

so you have 89 days left to prepare....this time dont underestimate any section. You applied to 38 schools, so make the most out of it by retaking to have a legit shot at acceptance. Good luck

thanks man. if i come up with the money, what scores should i be gettin to have a good shot? obviously i will shoot for the highest, but just so i know.

how did you prepare for the first DAT? because you have to change your study habits/ study materials used. most people will tell you to get atleast a 19AA/19TS to be competitive, others may tell you a bit higher.

Well, thats understandable.

Because you've invested SO MUCH into applying, in order to make the best of it, you should retake sometime by July. That way, your new scores arrive to schools before they start reviewing apps and rejecting the less desirable.

You've invested about $3000 so far, whats another $320 for the DAT

studied 4 a week.. just with a kaplan book

look in the DAT discussions, many of those that just used kaplan first time ( did poorly) and then retook using more study materials usually did better. so you have a great amount of potential to do better. start researching what materials to use.

what time in july? well it was more along the lines of 6,000 if you count sec fees, but seriously there is no more money left lol... i am living off of cereal (the one w the most protein in it) from the dollar store

i highly suggest you hold off paying enough secondaries fees so you can pay for the DAT retake. You can pay for the secondary fees later on, believe me you applied to enough schools, your highest priority right now is retaking and doing better so you don't just waste 6,000 dollars applying.

but you haven't paid the 2ndaries yet ... how could u have... some schools SPECIFICALLY tell you not to pay them until they contact you first.

its up to you what you wanna do, there is a good chance you won't get accepted (meaning 3000 or 6000 dollars down the drain). invest the additional $320 to salvage whatever you can. It sounds to me you just don't wanna re-study (this is kinda obvious, 1 week? only KBB? come on)

yeah i know.. the reason y i took the test yest was b/c i am in summer classes which just started and i need the money they are givin me to pay off my rent that is late (hence had to take the dat before the program got hectic and so i wouldnt have to take it late in the game after med finished).. its an intense program and its hard to study for the dat and do well in there at the same time.. u kno?

no i only payed the ones that wanted them, see above

I understand that you're in a difficult financial situation, but if I were you I'd seriously consider what Bing12 and Dentalworks have to say because you won't get any better advice on these boards.

Hold off paying some of your secondary fees and retake the DAT. Your have a much better chance with a 20 AA while applying to ~30 schools instead of a 17 AA while applying to 38 schools.

A retake of the DAT is mandatory if you wanna get in. Your chance of getting in with a 14 in bio is astronomically low.

That being said:

1) scour the DAT prep forums for breakdowns and help studying. Devote your life to ripping the DAT apart the 2nd time around. There are so many resources around to help you succeed you don't even know.

2) Here are some resources I would recommend to help your 3 weakest subjects:

Bio: Cliff's AP Bio, Thinkwell Biology Videos, Campbell's Biology (7th edition)

QR: Math destroyer, Khan Academy Math Youtube Videos (for trouble problem types)

GC: Chad's videos (course saver dot com)

3) There's a lot more out there but whats most important is what you wanna put into it to study and succeed. Good luck.

i just happened to stumble upon this thread.

OP there are so many logical inconsistencies in your replies. Either you have not thought thoroughly about your decision to apply, or have been royally led astray or some other wondrous phenomenon.

Think about your decisions before you commit next time. Just wow..

No offense but for someone who is trying to get the opinion of others you are coming off as very rude and arrogant. Everything someone is saying you have an immediate answer back to them....not really the way to get people to tell you truthful and helpful things.

btw...if you have a 3.7 I don't see how you scored THAT badly on the DAT? Most of it should have been review for you. A 14 on Bio doesn't even make most of the cutoffs and its like what 10th percentile? cmon.....

Yeah the LSU Admissions officer who spoke to my program said as soon as they see a high GPA and low DAT, it pretty much discredits their transcript or shows they're really lazy - they're better have a darn good excuse.
