UMDNJ: it has a great name. I mean it's such a small campus but the people seemed to be really nice. But it's hard to judge because UNLIKE OTHER schools this school did not offer the whole SPIEL of introduction/curriculum/tour etc to "buy" the students so other than the unofficical tour, I do not know how to compare this school.

AT. Still--Arizona: Yes this school is classic. The original chool KCOM kirsville is the founding father of DO, so the AZ campos won't be so bad right? Although it's only partially accredited. But the campus uis really nice n faculty/admin are extremely nice. The did a great job of "selling" the school.

Western UCOM: old and big schools, but really guys, the buildings are not all DO, they're all shared between other professional schools so it makes it look big. attractive rotations but classes are so big.. 200-400 for first 2 yr schools since it's shared with other professional students too.

LECOM-Bradeton
: heard it's PBL and top 3 DO schools

Touro NV or NY:? I'm pending interviews with them

Des Moines
?

UMDNJ or DMU. However DMU is more expensive and in Iowa. If you are Californian then Western. If you want to minimize debt then Lecom-B ( I don't know if Brendton housing is cheap though). SOMA is ok but it's hardly comparable to KCOM. Touro is eh.

I would personally say Western, DMU, or maybe UMDNJ (although i know very little about this school).

Western and DMU are comparable education wise, including rotations. Western however treats their students VERY well and has a way better location than DMU (Iowa?!)

LECOM-B, I dont think is the best school but if you like PBL, it offers a unique program

Touro-NV, not bad. Touro-NY (I was accepted here) is not bad either. Touro NY has a good location (the whole city, not the schools area..but takes 15 mins to get anywhere by subway) and if you actually want to give back to the under served community, I would recommend Touro-NY as they ACTUALLY believe in this.

Conclusion: Education + location....Western. If cost is a huge factor, I dont know which school is the cheapest (LECOM i imagine)

if you wanna live on the west coast. then western. if you wanna live on the east coast then umdnj. if cost is of concern but you cant see yourself in pbl. then umdnj.

and umdnj didnt try to sell itself because honestly. they have people lining up across country to go there. its an amazing school period.

I'd go to UNJ for sure. You can get instate tuition after your first year.

Its not as cheap as you would think. About thirty thousand a year and cost of living isn't cheap. Despite this its still a bang for your buck considering what the school offers.

yah i'm not too happy with how new jersey doesn't take care of their in-state students tuition wise. Factoring in COL (since i live up north and couldn't commute) and fees, it is cheaper for me to go out of state than in state. Not to mention the fact that the tuition has been increasing 10+% every year and i don't see it getting any better while our man christie is in office cutting education spending every chance he gets 🙁

I didn't apply to Touro-NY or UMDNJ but applied to the others and choose LECOM-B.

Geographically only Western can really compare, and tuition is much much cheaper than Western. PBL is also huge for me.

Compared to all those it's cheap though, except LECOM.

stephsteph, if you're not too far away, you're welcome to come visit the school again. I'm sure they told you during the tour, but we're getting the seats/desks replaced in the first-year classroom over this winter break. I can't wait to see how it looks when we go back. But yeah, if you ever want to visit or have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm happy with my decision to come here. 🙂

Edit: nevermind. I just noticed you're on the other side of the country. Well, let's see if I can help somehow... we've got a good program, nice people, and a relatively small class size (150). The train into Philly is about 0.3 miles from campus and there's a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's like 15 minutes away. I enjoy the new curriculum that they implemented last year. We started with Fundamentals and then moved right into systems. The first block which lasted until winter break was Cardio. I really like how all the subjects tie together. Next semester we'll have Renal, Pulmonary, GI, then Endo and Reproduction, I think.

I'm not sure if all schools do this, but in our anatomy, everything is clinically relevant and we get a lot of diagnostic imaging. For the cardio block, we had a lab practical with the cadavers, a lecture exam, and a diagnostic imaging practical. The DI had 80 questions on it with identifying things in Xrays and CTs and stuff. It was fun.

The professors are nice and seem to be very accessible. From what I can tell, the professors and the administration really care about the students and are very receptive. (I believe) if 70% of the class gets a question wrong, it is thrown out. If you disagree with an answer, you can (almost always) submit a challenge and sometimes get the class credit for another answer on an exam. The grading is fail, low pass, pass, high pass, honors.

As per the policy, attendance is mandatory and up to the professor whether they want to enforce it or not. Everything the professor does on the screen is recorded along with their voice. In the normal courses, no one has ever taken attendance and people have figured out by now whether it works best for them to attend or not. In fourth year, it seems like we have a lot of electives and from what I understand, we can do them anywhere in the world.

I was wondering if you guys have Siimans and Harveys and how much of that is important. Also are the COMLEX paid for? I saw the match list ofor 2009 (no frankly i don't even know how to "look" at a match list or how it is considered good or bad). I am confused because I was very fortunate enough to get accepted at both my top choice which is AT.Still and UMDNJ.

FUNNY thing is why are they no one standing up for AT.STill Arizona.. I really consider both schools really great and would love tohave something difference that would help me make a descision. I love all your advice. Keep them coming. Thank you.

I really didn't like SOMA after doing more research. The atmosphere seemed nice, but the curriculum is so radically different than most schools, and has you moving around between years 1 and 2. I commend them for trying something new, and I can see their curriculum really succeeding and resonating with students, but it's not for me, and I don't think its for the majority of applicants. Plus, its a newer school and I'm sure it will have kinks to work out.

dont disagree with me compadre. I DID say it was a great bargain and you are right its cheaper then the others other than lecom.

I am a 3rd year at LECOM-Bradenton and am very happy with my choice. If you aren't a lecture person, then its a no brainer, go there. (PM me if you have any specific questions. ) Otherwise, I'd say go with the school you liked the most and that you think best fits you. No need to worry about DO school "rankings" because they don'texist and if you are worried about the reputation of a school getting or preventing you from getting a residency I really wouldn't worry about that. I have talked to a number of program directors and never have had one tell me they take "school attended" into consideration when choosing between applicants.

Does anyone have COMLEX score for ATSU SOMA or UMDNJ, or match list.?

I heard DMU is really nice too.. oh man.. its gona be a tough decision when I go there in Jan..
