I am a straight white male, so my diversity topic ideas all stem from experiences.

1. I got a second bachelor's in philosophy because I really loved aspects of it such as culture/ethics/debate/argumentation and critical thinking.

2. Pretty extensive clinical experience as an ED tech. ~6000 hours. I've been on the care team for just about every possible race/ethnicity/SES/sexual orientation and so on. I feel as though this has given me a broad clinical explore that has led to a diverse mindset.

3. played competitive soccer my entire life. opted not to pursue competitive collegiate sports, but I did play club throughout college

Thanks in advance!

two more options that I have thought of but sort of doubt would work well are

4. being 23 and married (strictly just thinking about how I am different from a majority of med students)

5. spent 6 weeks in Africa with the Masai tribe helping teach in a small primary school (my grandparents and mom spent many years living with and helping the Masai people so this was like a big circle experience for me)

Maybe 1, but it would need to be played correctly. I think 3 is your best bet though. 5 is cool as well but would be tricky to make about yourself. Not 2 or 4 though

5 and 3.

I honestly feel like you should keep digging. There has to be someone unique about you as a person that maybe you aren't realizing. When you are ORM, diversity can still be about who you are, not just what you do or did. For example, let's say you are a philosophical reductionist. That's not something you do, per se, but it is something about your core self that makes you different from a lot of other people. So, I guess what I'm getting at is that you need to think more about who you are and less about what you do.

I agree, but you can be guided to find this aspect of yourself through your activities. And only writing about this trait “I’m XY and Z” without activities to back it up doesnt seem convincing. So dont focus on the activities more than the trait, but definitely have some there

about 8-10% of medical students are married as incoming M1.
.
How should I think about that statistic? part of me says wow 90% arent married as M1 so that makes me diverse, and another part says yeah if 10% of incoming M1s are married it makes me not so diverse.
I actually like #1; #5 and #4 are potentially interesting too.
I feel very drawn to write about #1, so I'm glad you like it!

You could try writing about a couple of the topics, and see which one works out best (show the writing to a couple of people for comments).
Also, you don't have to be singularly unique to add to the diversity of the class--just show what you bring that is a valuable addition that is different from most of your classmates.

You could write a tongue in cheek thing about how there can only be minorities if there is a majority and if accepted you would help make up the majority?
