What would you say to a person who is suicidal because they worked all of their life, sacrificing nearly everything to do an enormous amount of academic work and get the best grades they can, took pride in the idea that their hard work would result in a better future and comforted by the idea that their hard work would pay off for them, only to find that other students who did not sacrifice nearly as much and took study drugs, got better grades? The person I speak of consistently got the room next to all-night partiers who also got good grades on amphetamines, but his grades suffered as he was not aware of study drugs and had a huge tolerance to caffeine he spent nearly his whole paycheck on with undiagnosed adhd and narcolepsy. It is now questionable whether he will ever get into medical school and he has spent years beyond college studying for the MCAT, which we all know would have been many times faster with medication. He feels his life is wasted and has never had passion for anything comparable to academics but is way behind and getting denied entry level jobs partly due to his age. i do not know what to say but feel very badly and hope that someone will have insight into this beyond my level. Please provide your feedback.
