I want to become a radiologist. But thats not my concern right now. I have a question when applying to med school, they look at your science gpa and your overall gpa. Now i took gen chem 1 , and got a D ( i was freshmen thought i could do what i did in HS) then i took it over and got an A. Now im an electrical engineering student. And i have mostly A's and a few B's. Does my calculus, and advance math count toward a science gpa ? My overall GPA is around 3.6-3.7. I only have two C's one is in english and other in religious studies. ALso do to i was a freshmen didn't try hard enough. I know bio 1,2, chem 1,2 and ochem 1,2 count toward science gpa. BUt im not sure on my math and general physics (which i also got A in both) . Also HOw differnet is med school from engineering school ?

Thanks 🙂

very different.

all math and physics courses count toward science GPA. I see you are struggling with humanities courses. Thats pretty common for engineering kids. Try to get a tutor or extra help for your writing intensive classes, if you can.

You do know that AMCAS will include both grades you received for Gen Chem I when they figure your application GPAs, right?

I am a third year student at a respectable med school and I have never met anyone who got a "C" in Religious Studies." So that is the bad news. The good news is that I have never met anyone at my med school who took a course in Religious Studies, other than me. So you get kudos for mind expansion. Expanding the parameters of your consciousness is good. At least that is what Timothy Leary said. And he taught at Harvard, so he must be smart. By definition.

Schools will also look at upward trends in GPA, so even if you bombed a class early on you are not done for. If you could pull some A's in some humanities electives, that would be helpful.

FWIW, if you do well in one of the more challenging ugrad engineering majors, most people say med school should not be too challenging.
