The best leaders are the ones who don't do it for the position. True respect is earned, not commanded. If you were involved in something and people looked up to you / let you take the reigns, that sounds like something worth mentioning.
However, I would be looking at your current activities and seeing if you can take over some responsibilities or start up some new initiative within them. You don't have to be the founder / boss / etc to take on new responsibilty that involved others working with you taking the reigns. I find a lot of group activities where everyone is still equal, but someone has to make the decisions or organize all of the events, etc, that is still "leadership" even amongst peers and equals.
