Pathoma. Think of it this way:
Anything that causes increased acid hitting the esophagus: adenoCA
Anything that causes irritation for reasons other than acid: squamous

Do you have any qbank questions or something else to back up your claim?

Nah it was something I learned during my GI block. One of the docs told this to us in a review session somewhere.

Just look in FA (the 2013 version, the 2012 version has some errors). The only things that predispose to adenoCA are obesity, smoking, Barrett's and GERD.
Obesity and smoking --> GERD --> Barrett's (intestinal metaplasia, to protect from the acid since that's what intestinal epithelium does) --> adenoCA.
All of the other things on that list irritate the esophagus for other reasons and result in squamous metaplasia --> SqCC
