Help with NYMC

Hi,

I'm confused about NYMC's requirement that a letter of recc must come from the department in which you majored. Well my school doesn't have a premed committee, but rather a letter service. Also, I'm majoring in Biology. Will a letter from a Organic Chem teacher work? (Since O.Chem is a biology curriculum requirement).
