So I have read many things on this forum and have been helped a lot so far, but this is my first post. I have been having trouble remembering the basic hormones, what they do, and where they come from. I am studying biology mainly from the kaplan book. Differentiating between if they come from the posterior or anterior pituitary, whether they are protein or steroid hormones are common things I keep messing up. Is there any specific way that you found that helped you study for this? Any mnemonics? Also, do you know of any places that have a nice organized list of the common hormones and where they came from, what they do, and what type they are? I know its really going to just take a lot of repetition, but anything to help out with that process would be greatly appreciated!!

This helped me understand hormones as well as different types.. Peptide, steroid etc.

Also...

Anterior pituitary, the FLAT PIG:
Flat Pig = FSH, LH, ACTH, TSH, Prolactin, Ignore, Growth Hormone

Posterior pituitary, AUDIO OSMOSIS (AO):
Audio Osmosis = AO = ADH and Oxytocin

Examcrackers is good for little tricks to remembering things.

Another way is-
Toilet Paper Flag -
TP FLAG = TSH, Prolactin, FSH, LH, ACTH, Growth Hormone
T(SH) = Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
P(rolactin) = stimulates milk in female mammary glands
F(SH) = Follicle-Stimulating Hormone
L(H) = Leuteinizing Hormone
A(CTH) = Adrenocorticotropic Hormone
G(H) = Growth Hormone

and posterior pituitary, Audio Osmosis:
ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) = regulates the concentration of urine
Oxytocin = during childbirth it increases strength of contractions
Adrenal Gland
Go from outside to inside: Adrenal Cortex to Adrenal Medulla: CANE
Cortex = CA = Cortisol and Aldosterone
Medulla = NE – norepi and epi
Thyroid Gland
Then you’ve got the thyroid (T3 and T4, i.e. thyroxine) and parathyroid (PTH)
