Help with school list: 3.86 GPA, 519 MCAT URM

  1. cGPA and sGPA: 3.86, 3.74
  2. MCAT: 519 (130/129/130/130)
  3. State of residence: South Carolina, ties to California
  4. Ethnicity and/or race: Black female
  5. Undergraduate institution: Large state school (graduated May 2022). Bio major, Public Health minor
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer):
    1. 100 hours virtual scribe (primary care)
    2. 100 hours hospital volunteer
    3. Not sure if my current job (community health worker at free clinic through Americorps) counts as clinical or nonclinical as it does involve direct patient contact in a healthcare setting
  7. Research: (all wet lab)
    1. 500 hours- multiple sclerosis research at local med school (Did honors thesis on this topic and was awarded a grant for this project)
    2. 240 hours- Summer research internship at T5 med school. Did a poster presentation at the end.
    3. 240 hours- Summer research internship at T5 public health school. Did a presentation at the end.
  8. Shadowing experience: 10 hours IM (trying to get at least 50 by application)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
    1. 500 hours (will have 900 by application)- Americorps community health worker at a free clinic (again not sure if I can count some of these hours as clinical).
    2. 50 hours (should have at least 100 by time of application)- Sexual assault advocate at a nonprofit, accompany SA survivors to hospital for exam, answer the SA hotline
    3. 30 hours: community service ambassador for university, worked at a nonprofit that provides uninsured breast cancer survivors with needed medical supplies.
    4. 25 hours: delivered boxes of fresh fruits and veggies to folks without transportation (nonprofit)
  10. Leadership
    1. 120 hours- Student leader at multicultural center. Facilitated peer support groups for students of color and other marginalized students
    2. 400 hours - Peer consultant at student center. Provided academic consultations to struggling students
    3. 70 hours- Community outreach director for a student service org that plans an annual day of service where students help different homeowners and nonprofits in the area
  11. Relevant honors or awards
    1. Received a grant to fund undergraduate research

Break down your Americorps work by responsibility that you can say is clearly clinical (patient-serving) vs. likely non-clinical (office/administrative).
