Miss Jones was a right handed batter who finally got a tryout with the Red Sox and was hit very hard on the right side of her neck by a fast ball. She woke up unable to move the left side of her body. Over a period of one week she got somewhat better. Upon examination you note that in her right shoulder the deltoid muscle has many fasciculations and it is now smaller than the deltoid on the left side. Her left arm and leg are of normal size but they are weak with increased reflexes and a positive Babinski reflex; her right arm and leg are normal. She has no response to pain over the entire left side of her body while touch is normal everywhere. All sensations are present on the face. Where is the lesion and what is is going on in this patient?
