Hello, I'm new to here and maybe this is a wrong topic to post in or even wrong website-forum, but anyways I was wondering if i go to a doctor to fix my tooth (it's half broken) and the doctor will ask me if i smoke and i will say NO, and he will fix my tooth or gives me some medications, will it affect my health or anything for lying that i don't smoke, but i do smoke.????

why would you lie that you smoke. its not like he won't treat you if you smoke. from my experience, the only time the doctors tell you not to smoke is after you get a tooth extracted to decrease the possibility of a dry socket.

Maybe he thinks it will affect his insurance rates/coverage? I don't think it matters because they will be able to tell anyway given soft tissue damage and stains on your teeth.

Even after a root canal treatment.. if that's your case since you have a fractured tooth, you will be asked not to smoke. ( I hope I am right 😳 ).

You should stop smoking.
You should stop smoking.
You should stop smoking.
Stop!

It may affect your health if you lie to your doctor. If you should be completely honest with anyone in your life, it should be your doctor. Also, just keep in mind that your doctor wont judge you, but they just need the information so they know how to treat you best. Also, with all do respect, stop judging Fukker, dWiz and jk5177.

He will know if you smoke or not after looking in your mouth, so no need to lie. (my father is a periodontist and says he can tell in a heartbeat!)

I think you mention a very good point. We really should not judge another person. Instead, we should be more accepting of one another, and I absolutely agree. Yes you may expect, I'm going to defend my case here. I made my case by saying that he should stop smoking, and I repeated it couple times. This is in no way a judgment on that guys personality, character or intelligence. I merely stating what is right. As much as we accept everything that exist in this world, at some point, we need to put our foot down and make a stance. And, yes, the person should stop smoking. If you are smoking, you should stop smoking. This is in no way saying anything negative about you as a person, but it does necessrily imply that smoking is bad for your health. And repeating myself again. You should stop smoking because smoking is bad for your health. Period.

As a pre-dental student, a profession where we are suppose to care for another's health. I advocate quitting smoking. Period.

With just as much force, I advocate toothbrushing and flossing. You should floss. You should brush your teeth everyday. If you take this as a judgment. I will follow up by asking... why do you feel like I'm judging you?

That's wat i was sayin!! i dont floss though 😳

Many times we know what is good for us but we don't always do it, and that's okay. As long as we make slow progressive steps toward it, one day we will be content with our achievements. So if you want to start flossing, perhaps make a promis to floss every seven days, or buy plenty of floss around. I started flossing on the odd days of the week. Then I realize that the more I have of floos lying around, the more likely it is for me to floss, so now I have 5 packs of floss around (bathroom, backpack, bedroom, car, and bathroom). But for me, food gets stuck in between molars, so it is almost necessary to floss to eliminate that food-between-the-teeth annoyance.
