Hello,
I will have a 2.8 and ~500 hours of animal experience when I apply and what if I got an 1100 on my GRE. I plan on applying to SGU (carribean) for the January cycle. I know that my GPA isn't great. Honestly what are my chances of getting in to SGU????

What else do you have to offer? Off hand, if your only assets are your GPA, your GRE, and your animal experience, I'd give you a low probability of success.

I think a 2.8 sounds low to me. People do get in with sub-3.0 GPAs, but that puts you on the lower end right off the bat with, presumably, lower odds of success.

Of course, schools calculate GPAs differently, and I've no idea how SGU does it. It might be a completely different story if your most recent credits are much higher and it's earlier credits dragging your GPA down.

Your GPA might also not matter if the rest of your application is really polished and highlights the kinds of strengths/skills that SGU is looking for. Anywhere you have a weakness (in your case, GPA), you have to do two things: 1) Be able to explain it or show that you learned something from it, and 2) Balance it out with strengths elsewhere on the application.

1) Are your 500 hours of animal experience under the supervision of a vet?

2) What are you currently doing to boost your animal hours?

3) I would take the gre again

4) Are the science classes what is dragging your gpa down or is it other classes?

If you have a weak point in your application, the rest of the application should be very strong. At this point, your GREs are low average and your animal experience hours are OK. You will likely need to retake the GRE and gain a good amount of veterinary hours (with a vet). Also, is your GPA the way it is because of recent grades or past transgressions? That will make a pretty big difference in how your GPA is viewed.

You should focused more in getting more experience.... Have you try ross, the chances are huge!!!

Also, I've heard that it's easier to get into the January cycle than the one starting in the fall 👍

Yeah I was thinking was was going to really focus on getting more hours and getting a good score on my GRE like a 1300-1400. How long do you think will be good enough time to study for a GRE like a month???? Yeah I looked into Ross but I really like St. George's a lot, it's defiently one of my first choices but yeah looking into Ross more might not hurt.

This really depends on the test-taker. I would say I studied a moderate amount - worked through a book with six practice tests and then a second, math-only prep book. I started studying at the beginning of the summer and took my first test at the end of July and my second at the end of August.

You got an 1100 on your first try. How much studying did you do for that test? If you went in cold, I would say you have a good chance of increasing your score significantly. However, a jump from 1100-1400 is a pretty big score increase. Not to say that you shouldn't aim to do your very best on the test or that it isn't possible, but you will need to put in a good deal more time.
