i am planning to apply for the psy residency this year do i also need to apply for the transitiona yr .is it a necessary requirement?

Just apply through ERAS to a four year Psychiatry residency program. Psych programs have their own intern year which is generally about six months med/neuro and six months inpatient psychiatry.
These questions are probably better suited for allo or osteopathic forums because they deal with getting into residency rather than issues once you are a resident.
