Can anyone help me answer this question? I haven't been able to find any connection btw alcohol and weight loss.

. Mr. Doe is, 48 years old and 170 pounds, has lost weight and feels nauseous and tired. He drinks 3 glasses of scotch and then ½ bottle of wine with dinner. He has been under stress with his job and family. In addition to his liver problems how else could alcohol intake lead to Mr. Doe's weight loss? List 3 ways and describe the physiologic mechanisms accounting for the effects of alcohol on the processes noted..

Seems like there could be way more than 3. I doubt these are what they're after but it seems reasonable.
1. Chronic pancreatitis leading to malabsorption. Maybe he has developed pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
2. Squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus causing dysphagia and a decreased desire to eat solids.
3. Inhibition of gluconeogenesis by depleting pyruvate and increasing the NADH/NAD+ ratio in the liver. Body burns all of its fat stores trying to supply energy to the brain via ketone bodies.

(1) Malnutrition from drinking your meals (and anemic from lack of folate)
(2) Cachexia from cancer, pick your type.
(3) Excess lipolysis secondary to up NADH/Nad ratio, impaired gluconeogenesis, and impaired energy generation secondary to oxidation/phosphorylation uncoupling.
(4) Dead pancreas
