I want to start studying step1 starting my first year medical school using first aid as guide. My plan is to go through first aid and write down each topic they mention and focus them more as they come up in my courses. Is that a good idea? if not what would you recommend
Secondly what q and a books or general books were most helpful in ms1 and ms2 for each courses?
Thanks

I honestly wouldn't recommend studying this early, you might benefit by getting a book like USMLE step 1 made Ridiculously Simple by A. Carl. But don't "study it" just be aware of the topics it covers and when you see or hear them in school you can pay attention. But that's even something I wouldn't suggest. The time will come soon enough,

First Aid is a review book, and not an ideal source to learn from. I would focus on just absorbing as much as you can through your school work in the beginning.

At the end of the first semester, many medical schools will administer a comprehensive NBME subject exam (like a final). This is the only time I found FA handy during first year because it was the fastest way to review since we only had about 5 days to study for it. Save things like pathoma and qbanks until maybe the end of the year when you have some pathology under your belt. Do not even consider touching UWORLD until second year.

If you want to supplement your learning in first year, maybe consider BRS subject books or Lange/Lippincott flashcards in subjects you are weak in.

You do not learn from First aid and you should not memorize First Aid. ITs purpose is for late in 2nd year when you remind yourself of any factoids or things you need to look up in a real textbook. Memorizing the factoids in first aid without having any clue what they mean will NOT help you in the slightest on this exam.

As above, First Aid is way too superficial to be of any use to you as 1st year. Get BRS or Rapid Review instead.

Don't listen to them bro they're just gunners trying to bring you down. It'll be much easier to work through FA if you get people from your class to form a group. Post on your class facebook page and let them know exactly what you're doing and see if anyone is interested.

You would recommend this book over FA?

What do you recommend for those of us with a 1.5yr integrated curriculum? We do normal physiology to pathophysiology and the corresponding dissection all in one unit. So the 1st week of December until end of Feb 1st year is immunology and ID, which many schools have 2nd year. Should I use step resources all throughout school with a curriculum like this or still hold off until the dedicated study time in Feb of 2nd yr?

You should do literally the same thing as what other people do. First aid if you want and do pathoma when you cover pathology.

Every other medical student seems to consider this the greatest query since Newton pondered the cause of the falling apple.
