hI, I am a sad pre-med student, and need desperate advice. im very sad, and have depression these days, i cant even sleep these days.

i'm going to be a Senior at UCSD, biochem-bio major.

and my gpa is horrendous..right now its 2.8 and i haven't even calculated science because its lower and i have a D in one of my classes, not really a science class though.but im taking it again, im sure i will get an A ...well of course I'm considering, an SMP/Post-Bacc programs. well here's questions.

1. what are the negative things about going to a SMP/post-bacc? besides time and money?

2. What are some good programs to go to, w/o losing that much time, because time is very crucial to me, due to my parents age and other stuff.

3. For senior year, would it be "bad" to take "easy" classes such as music, theatre, art, and such. I only need 3 more classes required for that major?

4. Lastly, i'm thinking of taking classes at a community college nearby for G-Chem stuff, because i took those freshman year and did not get A's. i know it doesnt affect GPA, but just to show them i can get A's.

5. and any other advice to make me feel positive will be awesome !

Thank You

Whoah! Slow down there pardner'! If you have been getting poor grades for the past 3 years, don't expect to get an A this time around. You need to sit down with somebody you know that gets good grades and talk about why you are not acing all of your undergrad courses. Are you working too much? Partying too much? Not studying effectively? Identify the problem first, then attack your senior year.

A formal SMP/post-bacc? Money mainly. If you take one of those SMPs where you take 1st year medical school classes alongside med students, there is the risk that if you don't well you will bar yourself permanently from getting into any medical school. Make sure you identified why you aren't doing well in school before you jump into such a program. They are designed for those with <3.0 GPAs as a last chance, so you'll need to do extremely well.

2. What are some good programs to go to, w/o losing that much time, because time is very crucial to me, due to my parents age and other stuff.
You need to know how well you'll do on the MCAT. You might be able to get away with acing your senior year coursework, do a year or maybe two of post-bacc at your current university, and applying with a >31 MCAT score. But you need to ace (get all A's) in your courses from now on.

3. For senior year, would it be "bad" to take "easy" classes such as music, theatre, art, and such. I only need 3 more classes required for that major?
Easy classes wont' help you. You need to take uppper-division science courses to prove that you can handle hard science. ADCOMs will see that you took easy classes and aced them, but it will prove nothing.

4. Lastly, i'm thinking of taking classes at a community college nearby for G-Chem stuff, because i took those freshman year and did not get A's. i know it doesnt affect GPA, but just to show them i can get A's.
Don't go from a 4-year college to a community college, it looks bad. It's okay if you started at a CC then transferred to a 4-year, but not the other way around.

5. and any other advice to make me feel positive will be awesome!
You can do it! But, you need to sit down and take a hard look at why you are not doing well in school, talk with friends and advisers, and make a plan. You seriously can't get any grade less than an A from here on out (maybe a lonely B, but maybe just one...how did my adviser tell it to me? "You could get maybe one B in an ocean of A's"). It's going to take a couple of years to undo the damage because you have to prove to the ADCOMs that you are not a risk by showing you can handle the coursework and standardized tests.

Thank You
You're welcome! :luck::luck::luck:
