Hi,
Anyone here have any experience with hepatitis E(Endemic in india).I have a patient from india with hepatitis E diagnosis.A year after the diagnosis,he looks apparently okay with normal labs but still complains of dyspeptic symptoms which he attributes to the hepatitis(all the literature on hepatitis E states its self limited nature) so I am not sure whether his symptoms are stress related or a sequel of the hepatitis. Thanks for any useful ifo or insight.

you are more helpful than you think...helping isn't just being useful...the first thing is to actually want to help..and u did 😉
But yeah, this Q is more for the doctors' forums.

Thanks Tina. I tried to search for info that was at least from reputable areas, which is all I'm good for hehe.

You're right, Hepatitis E is supposed to be self-resolving (a few weeks). But usually hep E patients may have hep A (or another type), so you might want to test him for that too. Unless it's due to stress but I doubt it is.

Been there, done that...
Got what was most likely Hepatits E in India 6 years ago.
Went for Med School, got Hepatitis, Malaria, Typhoid, and a smorgasbord of Gastroenteritides instead.
I miss it...

well dont know whether hepatitis can lead to dyspepsia as a sequelae but i have seen many of my friends who had suffered hepatitis E during an epedemic last summer. I dont think anybody has dyspepsia. But I would surely enquire about it! But again there is a catch coz diagnosis of hepatitis was mainly clinical and viral assays (so i am not sure whether it was hepatitis A or E but the authorities say that it was an epidemic of hepatitis E) were not done since it hardly affect management of hepatitis.

yeah... i didn't have an assay done either... the doctors treating me had told me it was most likely E... and i never found out for sure if I had amoebiasis... but metrogyl was my friend, haha...

Well, there are nonA-E viruses(other than the discovered A-E).How can you be sure you are not a carrier or worse still have chronic hepatitis unless you have serological confirmation you are dealing with a benign version(A or E).
I donot want to be an alarmist but am somewhat curious as to how you can have peace of mind without serological testing? Thanks for the informative replies.
