Hello all,
I've been creeping on SDN for a few months now and finally decided to post my stats and see how i actually stack up and if you guys had tips for improvement etc. I am in the application process, filling out supplemental apps as I get them. I am a repeat applicant;I tried to graduate with a BS biology and BA in Chemistry early in 3 years but was not accepted.
Im from NC and applying to both schools here and 13 OOS schools that are mostly private or have a close 50/50 OOS acceptance

total GPA: 3.82
science GPA: 3.8

DAT AA: 21
total science: 20
PAT:19

150+ hours of dental experience ( shadowing and volunteering)
230 hours of total volunteering
320 hours in research (Summer Biomedical Research Program)

fairly decent committee letter ( They edited the previous letter)

a number of honor organizations

Perfect. Those stats WILL get you in!

Just don't screw up your interview

that is exactly what i am afraid of. I think that is where I fell short last cycle. In comparing my responses to supplemental apps last year and this year I definitely feel more mature. In addition I have shadowed more so feel more confident but what do you suggest I do to prepare for the interview?

Read as much about the school as possible before the interview. Have clarity of thought regarding most questions that can be posed ("Why ____University Name____?", "Why Dentisty?" etc.)

And most importantly do not exaggerate or say anything disingenuous. The Admissions folks see thousands of people so they are very good at reading you. Example: If you're wanting to go to a certain university for geographic reasons, no harm saying it. If you try to say something else, you will most likely be found out. Lastly, be tactful in the actual interview. They don't just focus on us for those few hours they talk to us. They are probably observing us through out our time there - starting from how you greet them, how you show up on time, how you mingle with other interviewees etc.

Good luck this cycle, your stats don't hold you back at all!

Wow! a double major in in three years. Did the interviewers ask you about that?
Your stats look great (gpas WAY above the averages for both UNC and ECU), I'm surprised that things didn't work out last cycle.
Edit: I just saw that you said you felt like you fell short for your interviews, could you elaborate on that? Were you nervous? Did they ask tough questions? thanks!

Yeah well I felt as if my answers were not comprehensive and I was nervous so I just tried to answer each question quickly. The toughest questions I always felt were the ones that caught me off guard: Why are you unique? Why this school? (I now know a bit of research and soul-searching will do the trick) Where do you see yourself in X years?
I think that my question does not matter as much as the process? or is that a myth?

wow your DAT stats are absolutely amazing why arent you applying this cycle?

Thanks for your response! I'll definitely spend some time thinking about questions of that nature

wow your DAT stats are absolutely amazing why arent you applying this cycle?

If that was directed at me, Thank you! I am applying this cycle. 🙂
