so sorry for posting yet another thread about my chances of getting in...but i really need some help🙁

ive taken the mcat twice. im going to be a senior in the fall. the first time i got 18M. the second, 19M, 9V, 6P, 4B. the reason i didn't improve the second time around is b/c i got really sick just before the mcat- plus, the bio section was mostly microbio, and i haven't taken micro bio. other than that, my scores went up in verbal and physical sci.

my overall gpa is 3.19. my non sci is around 3.6, my science around 2.76. i've got a ton of LORs and ECs.

at this point, i have already applied, but i've lost all hope of getting in. i really doubt i have the energy in me to go ahead and take the mcat a third time- i've applied to 6 schools, and really expect to be rejected by all.

so, should i start thinking of changing my career plans???🙁

I've known people who've taken the MCAT three times. It all depends on how badly you want to be a doctor...If you want it bad enough, you'll figure out what you have to do and do it. And I think for you that does mean retaking the MCAT a third time. It doesn't have to be in August. Maybe take some time to regroup and then retake next April or something after long and serious preparation so you know you'll kill the test. Then apply again next year, fresh and ready to get tons of acceptances. Maybe in the mean time you could do some things, like taking some extra sciecne classes somewhere, to improve your science GPA. Just take some to time to relax and then be proactive in improving yourself to guarantee an acceptance next cycle.

But this is all alot of work. It's what I would do if I were you, but that's only because I've always known I was going to work as hard as it took for as LONG AS IT TOOK to make medicine a realtiy for me. If you could see yourself being happy doing somethign else, maybe seriosuly consider that. Because you've already been throguh alot and you'll have to go through alot more, i think, to make medicine happen for you. It all comes down to how bad do you want it. And if it's not that bad, fine, go after something else and be happy, you know. 🙂 But you CAN DO IT, if you push harder and keep going. It's all up to you. 🙂

You do realize micro isn't a necessary course for the MCAT? A lot of the answers can be found through simple analysis or inference. I took the MCAT with only the two bio courses, 3 years after I took them, with no studying prior to the exam -- I still managed a 7BS.

With a total package of 3.19/2.76, 19M, I wouldn't waste your time applying this year. You'll hear some, "Go ahead and try, I know so and so" comments, but be realistic. Improve your numbers and try again next year.

A bit tough. If you can get 9/7/7 on MCAT, then you will have a good chance if you apply all the DO schools. 😉

Not with a 2.76 in science. That's barely above the minimum cutoff. At best s/he will waste several hundred dollars in secondaries.

S/He may want to check out the Caribbean schools. They're not so bad, and if you really wanna be a doc, it's worth the 20 months of suffering.

A 4 on Bio is in the bottom 20th of test takers
3.3-7.1%ile That is really going to be a red flag since the first two years are mostly biology.
