Im trying to graduate a year early, and Im taking 4 summer school courses this summer. If I take 5 next summer, I will finish with 38 credits instead of 40. My question is will d-schools allow me to finish these two courses the spring before I attend the school or am I screwed? I dont really want to take 6 courses in any of the next semesters.

Thanks.

Schools just want you to finish your degree before you start school, so taking classes in the spring should be no big deal. They will however want to see your pre-req's before your interview, so those will have to be done before the spring, if that's what you're asking.

Not to hijack the thread but I'm kind of in a remotely similar situation. This is all assuming I get into dental school and start during the academic year 2010-2011. By the end of my spring semester (09-10) I will be just a couple classes (3 classes at the most) short of getting my degree. Will dental schools care that I don't have one if I'm so close to getting one?

never heard that before. When I call the schools, they say that they want the pre-reqs completed before acceptance. Not before the interview. For example, people put off taking physics until their senior year.

By the time I have interviews I will have completed english, chem1,chem2, bio1, bio2, and orgo 1...as well as be working on physics 1...meaning Ill have orgo 2 and physics 2 still left to complete.

Unless your science grades are in the A range, it is quite likely that you will be at a disadvantage since it is a bit difficult to judge an application with incomplete prerequisites. Moreover, it might be risky taking the DAT without orgo 2.

You should probably look into when the schools you are applying to begin classes and compare that against when your spring classes would end. I know that Louisville starts classes earlier than most D-schools. If you can complete your spring courses before classes start, I don't think you will have any problems. You also have to think about when you are going to study for the DAT if you are taking so many classes. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can study for it in a week between semesters and do really good. Especially without orgo 2. Good luck though.
