I just wanted to say hello to everyone here. I only recently found out about PM&R as a specialty, and I think it sounds AWESOME. I never knew such a field existed and what excites me is that PM&R seems to be based on principles that I loved when I studied Kinesiology / Biomechanics back in college. Anyways, I'm a 3rd year now at USC, and we don't have a PM&R program here. I really want to tour a PM&R program and see the doctors at work to get a feeling for what they do.

Hey there, I won't hold your Trojan-ness against you.. (I'm a UMich grad, ugly ugly Rose bowl on our part 😕 )

Cali has the following programs;

Loma Linda
UCLA/VA
UC Irvine
Stanford
UC Davis

Try http://www.physiatry.org/education/index.html to look for more programs if you don't want to rotate in-state.

Good luck! :hardy:

😳 I was at that game........ it was amazing. Michigan had a great recruiting class this year, and you guys will be strong next year with young guys to replace Navarre and Perry.

Thanks for the list of programs. I like UC Irvine and UCLA/VA, but Loma Linda and it's whole religious thing is kind of intimidating. I prefer So Cal because my family is here, and my wife works here in Los Angeles. If I were to have to leave So Cal, I'd choose Seattle and UDub before Nor Cal. Seattle is gorgeous 🙂 The thing I'm particularly concerned about is my step 1 USMLE score. It isn't so hot 🙁

UMs recruiting class may have been good...but USC's was other-worldly...:scared:

I hear you re; not so good Step 1....but study your butt off for step 2 and I think you'll be fine.

Finally, if you are really thinking about UDub, rotate there first. I've heard through the grapevine that it is a pretty malignant place. However, I met someone on the interview trail who was at UDub, and he said that the old program chair retired or somethin' so things may be improving...

I'm a solid student, but I'm just NOT good at the USMLE style exams. I actually don't plan on taking the Step2 early because I'm not confident that I can do substantially better. I will probably have two open spots to take away clerkships, and I think I'll try to take them at UCLA/VA and UC Irvine. I need to find out though how much these programs care about board scores..... if my score will make me non-competitive for a residency, I might have to rethink PM&R.
