Hi Docs,
I am in a family practice residency year 1 and want to reapply to ERAS for internal medicine.
Should I tell my PD before applying to ERAS or should I wait until interviews?
Since its early days into my intern year yet, I just wanted to know what to do?????

Can Family practice get a PGY2 spot in Internal medicine ??

Appreciate input on the 2 questions.
Take care everyone

You will need a letter of rec/good standing from your current PD so you will have to tell him/her before ERAS. Additionally, if you're stuck on ward rotations during the interview season it will be hard to keep your plans a secret and you'll need coverage or time off to interview. Sooner is better than later. Be sure to have a good reason for why you've decided to do this. "I hate FP and only took this spot because it was the only thing left in the scramble" is not a good reason.

As far as credit is concerned, the most you can hope for is credit for 6 mos of your FP intern year toward a medicine program. This is completely up to the discretion of the PD though so you may get nothing.
