So I'm checking out fares on a Sunday to Cleveland for an upcoming Monday interview at Case. The lowest available fare for a one-way (I'm flying out of a different city) is $249, and on America West no less. Brutal, right? Cleveland is a Continental hub so I check out the route map and start doing the hidden-city trick to get that price down. I try flights that will end in cities only served through Cleveland by Continental, like Akron, Flint, Fort Wayne...but a flight going through Cleveland to Erie, ERIE FREAKIN PENNSYLVANIA, gets that fare down to $122. And the bonus is it's an overnight flight so I get to Cleveland bright an early Monday morning. Boo ya Continental!

Now the only problem is, I can't check any bags since I'm not completing my travel. So how do I get a suit and 3 days of other clothing into my 1 carry-on+personal item limit? Can I carry just my big carry-on and the suit in its sleeve from the cleaners and ask them to hang it up? Or can I do backpack, big carryon, and suit?

you know you can buy this thing for about 30 bucks.....its like a durable bi/trifold luggage thing that is made out of a tougher Jansport backpack material. you can fit your suit in there along with other clothes you can hang up inside the bifold thing since it comes with hangars. it also has 2 smaller zippered compartments you can put your dress shoes in. it also has a another compartment on the backside where you can fit some more clothes and a towel if you fold it nice and thin. you can carry this on with you and fit it in the overhead compartment. and anything else you need you can put in a backpack for your carryon item.

but if you dont want to buy anything. just do the big carryon and ask them to hang up the suit in their mini closet things.

Just be careful, if Continental figures out what you did, they will come back to you and charge you the full fare one way coach ticket--which is much more that the 249. Make sure not to put a frequent flier number on the itinerary--thats one of the ways that they audit the process and if you get caught they cancel your account.

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone done this during the interview season? it seems too risky to me. I know they can't arrest you for hidden city ticketing or throaway ticketing but they could sue you in a civil court and could you face problems as a med student/resident applicant later on? will it show up on your record?

I have an opportunity to save $900 doing this, but I'm scared to do it. I don't got any miles but I'm just scared that their going to attack me and destroy my chances of being a physician.
I saw some chances to do it here: https://skiplagged.com/
