  1. Pre-Dental
Hi,
I don’t want this post to sound like a like a troll post, as I actually just want feedback. I took the DAT recently and scored a 23AA, 22TS and, 30 PAT. I know I did well enough to be at competitive for most schools, but my top choices are competitive state schools like UCLA and UCSF. I wonder with my late application, around start of August, whether my high PAT score would help me at all, or like the dental schools won’t care about it. My GPA is 3.69 and my science GPA is 3.76.

stop worrying about if you are late and finish your app and turn it in!

Hi thanks for the tip, I will definitely finish up before August haha. Just trying to get some feedback.

the only feedback that matters is the adcoms, and they cannot see your app unless it is submitted

I do understand what you’re saying lol, but I can’t complete my apps today. I feel like it’s a bit much to pretty much repeat what I already know on a post looking for help on here. As you could clearly write that advice to every single predent post on SDN and everyone would know that. I’m just looking for some advice here. Again thanks for your helpful tips I guess.

your grades/scores are competitive at most schools
you will be competitive at UCLA/UCSF as long as your ECs are strong and are in state, chances decrease if you are OOS
your 30 PAT is helpful, but isn't going to be what gets you an interview

Hi, yes I am indeed in-state. My ECs are decent I believe, I have 250 shadowing hours, a couple of clubs, and worked full time at a pretty well known genetics lab as a research assistant for half a year. I will be starting work as a dental assistant, and have around 300 hours of community service. The part of my ECs I feel like most lacking is clinical experience, which I can hopefully gain with my work as a dental assistant.

Congrats on the PAT score, that is insane! Based on the 2017-2018 Survey of Dental Education, the importance of each subject is ranked as this: AA > TS > RC > Bio > PAT > OC ~> GC >> QR. I have heard that doing (marginally) worse on PAT than your other scores is not seen negatively, and that a very high PAT is definitely intriguing, depending on the school. I spoke to the dean of admissions for one dental school and I remember she said that she invited someone for an interview partly because she was so fascinated that he scored a 30 on the PAT. It was the only time she had seen that, though this was a few years ago. Based on what I've seen, I've noticed a lot more 30s on the PAT in 2019 than I have from 2016-2018. Perhaps the availability of new resources for practice has contributed to this. Nonetheless, a 30 on the PAT is definitely amazing and there will be a few adcoms that will be intrigued by that score!

In your crosspost (which is against ToS and will be deleted), you said you were going to apply at the end of August

I’d be willing to do a breakdown in a couple of weeks if anyone’s interested.
Being in-state gives you a good chance, but there are plenty of in-state applicants with stats the same as or better than yours. Also, applying in August is late and I'm not too sure if a 23 would be enough for a late app and I don't know how much importance your PAT score would hold. Apply asap

Hi, if I was to finish my apps before August, like late July in the next week or so, would that be that much better than early August?
