I know this may not seem like the right forum for me, but i am a high school student deciding whether or not to apply to combined dental programs. Right now, I am deciding between apply early decision to a combined dental program with NYU or a regular undergrad school such as brown. In a ba/dds program, a student finishes undergrad in three years ,takes the DATs, and then if they meet the requirements, is accepted to the dental school. My question, now, is since this forum is made up of many students who have practically finished a pre-dental track, what was ur experience like? Are you stressed applying to dental school. If you were in my situation, what would u do? thanks for anyone who reads this

hey there,

first of all, a lot of us are stressed, lol. but, if you want to take that track, be prepared to work hard. it's all about sacrifice. some people have the ability to study two days before a final, and make an A, but most people don't.

I have a lot of friends who are business majors, and they go out all the time. and most of the time, i'm studying.

if you know for SURE that you want to be a dentist, then go for it. however, you will only be 'saving' one year if you decide to take the 'traditional' four year undergrad path.

think of it this way, if your 34 or 35, it doesn't really matter how 'fast' you became a dentist - in the long run - who cares that you made it one year earlier!

Four years of undergrad is a blast if your discplined and Know how to use time management. Find the right balance, and you will have no regrets which ever path you choose.

Good Luck!

i would do the combined program man if you know you want to go to NYU for dental school. applying is an expensive and emotionally draining experience. my 2 cents

I was totally pumped about dentistry in highschool as well. I started shadowing and all that good stuff and I knew it was what i wanted to do. I chose to go to Michigan State to do my undergrad though and I don't regret it for a minute. Yeah, it's a pain in the @$$ sometimes (right now especially) and it is a lot of hard work, but I think you learn so much more doing it this way. It's really up to you and what you want to do. If you think you're ready to commit, then go for it. Personally I would recommend going with the undergrad degree. Good luck dude.
