Hey guys! I know you are not supposed to add high school things to our application. However, while graduating from my high school, i was awarded salutatorian which meant that I had the second highest GPA in my graduating class. Even though it was 4 years ago, I think its pretty impressive but not sure if I should add it. Any advice?

No. Once you get to college absolutely no one cares.

Agreed with the above, they won't care, adding it can only make you look like you are grasping at straws for things to put on your AMCAS.

Makes you look like an immature, overweening hyperacheiver who doesn't undertand what this process is about and what we look for.

We don't care about your SAT scores either.

Show us you can handle medical school and will make a good doctor.

Oh yeah, so impressive. Guess what? Nobody cares.

absolutely, make sure its the first thing you bring up during interviews too. Guaranteed acceptance 👍

OP already got the message, now its just a pile-on.

Lots and lots of salutatorian and valedictorian hate, all of which (including from a respected adcom) is unwarranted and disrespectful. Sure, it won't matter to medical schools, but quit being disrespectful for students who won the recognition in high school. It sounds nothing but bitter envy and selfish pride from all of you.

Now if OP got destroyed in college, his/her high school performance is a fluke. If OP is a rock star applicant, include it by all means. Otherwise, it isn't necessary.

Academic stuff from high school should be left off of the application. GPA/SAT scores/AP scores are all irrelevant once you have college grades and MCAT.

It is possible to include some activities or research from high school if they were really impressive (two guys from my high school were on national news for some research they did) or if you continued the activity into college.

Putting down salutatorian on your app is basically saying they you weren't good enough for valedictorian... I would avoid it.

However, you have to report SAT/ACT scores on TMDSAS. I guess this is just for statistical purposes?

Yeah I think the OP got the message.

Although, Virginia Commonwealth is asking for SAT and ACT scores. Wonder why that is?

My guess is just for statistical purposes, meaning it's not actually a factor in the decision. But I could be wrong

Don't add it. It looks petty and inconsequential.

I have a question regarding high school activities in general. Agreed, I wouldn't put HS grades or test scores or anything. I do plan to put shadowing and volunteering that I have continued from high school through college at the same institutions, however.

I would also like to add another high school activity that I did throughout my senior year to my application. It was a very big project that involved research, art, medicine, and fundraising. It had a SIGNIFICANT impact on my wanting to be a doctor, and I feel that it's really important that I talk about it somehow in my applications. AAMC and AMCAS don't specifically say that high school activities aren't allowed in the work/activities section, but I know that it's frowned upon at SDN. I just don't know how to tell my story of how I came to be interested in medicine without this event. Is the only place for it my PS?

Thanks all!

I think you can include it if its significant and relevant to medicine. I had research and a pub on my application from high school, and not a single school thought that was strange on the interview trail.
