I've heard from a lot of people that if you do BSS questions you can get a really high score (so long as you have the extra time it takes to do all the 4000 questions).

is this true...have any of you heard good things about BSS as a question source.

I have lots of time to study for step 1, so i was wondering if it will be useful to do the questions repeatedly, even if i'm just reading the answer explanations.

any advice is appreciated...thanks

gotta agree that these questions were the best learning tool I found. did review/learning on systems represented in one of the books, then did 2 of the tests in that book and felt much better about the material. I thought it was a better representation of the real thing (in terms of how to think) than some of the straight memorization stuff from q-bank. However, some of the questions in BSS were really outdated, and others were annoying (i.e. biostats that were way too specific)

i thinik a good amount of people who end up buying bss, in the end do not work through it. bss has great learning-questions, but to work on them u need to also work through low-yield junk, since the ratio of high quality questions to low-yield ones is proabably 1:1.

i have a BSS question book and a CD w/q's. are they both good? su

One thing I regret not doing was BSS. It was pretty much a choice (because of time) between doing BSS and Qbank. If I had to do it over again, I would try to finish q bank as quickly as possible (i.e. minimal agonizing/annotating of q bank answers) and go to BSS. Q nank isnt the be-all-end-all of step 1 prep. If yorue going to do BSS, start early! If your school breaks down second year into organ systems, just do the relevant books that go with what you are currently learning. Kaplan has a tendency to force you to think in a certain way-thier way. Its nice to get a different angle on things by choosing other resources.

I also used the BSS and found it to be extremely helpful. The trick is starting early enought to get through them all AND have time to adequately review the questions. I did almost all of the questions but really didn't look at the explanations that much. Nevertheless, BSS is a great resource. Proabably my most treasured purchase for boards. Now I gotta go; I'm selling my BSS. 😀
