I cant help being curious what the number of applicants is up to now and how it compares to last year. Of people who have applied within the last month or two what was your AADSAS number?

i turned mine in on august 20th
it is about 6700's.
it is the last 4 digits of our number, right?

wow.. It seems there are more applicants this year.... 6700s on 8/20!!!

How do you find your number? Do you call them? I submitted mine on August 11th.

that's strange, i submitted mine on july 10th, and i was in the 1800's hmmmm.

and yeah, 6700 already on 8-20 is amazing

mcataz,

you can call or you find out when they send you a hard copy of your application. its the last 4 numbers of 2004XXXX.

6700's can't be right... i called them today and they said 3500's, which makes sense... i am sending mine in few days and will let you all know of my number.

Comet!

I agree with Comet, 6700's would be incredibley high this early, let us know your number when you get it Comet.

I spoke to AADSAS last week, and the person I spoke to told me, they have only processed 3500 applications so far, and clearly pointed out, its still the early stages of the application, considering I sent mine on August 28th, I doubt if they got to 6700's. Who knows how the numbering works, but 6700 applicants sounds little doubtful to me.

Last year I sent in my application in early December. My aadsas number was in the 6300s. Wow, if its already 6700 today, I'd hate to see it in a few months!

You guys have got to realize that the AADSAS number doesn't mean they have processed your application. I believe it only means that it has been received.

So, they could technically have an AADSAS number of 6700 and still state that they have only processed 3500 applications.

I believe that they assign you an AADSAS number as soon as they have recieved your application. Therefore, anybody who has sent in their application recently can call before their application is sent out and get their AADSAS number and give us an idea of how high it is. And no this wouldnt tell us how many have been sent out, but would give an idea of how many they have received and how it compares to last year.

I agree with ItsGavinC

The big numbers normally stand for Applicant I.D. #. This is an automatic number the applicant receives the minute they submit their application via web, or the minute AADSAS receives the application via mail and enter it in their records.

Mine was in the 7600's, and I sent it via web on Aug 28th. The same week AADSAS told me they processed 3500 application so far.

Thats around 4100 (7600-3500) applications not processed yet, with various reasons. It could be, 1500 have completed everything for the process and in the waiting line, 1500 of them havent submitted Letter of Recommendations, 1000 of them havent submitted their Transcripts, and 100 of them have not paid the processing fee. It could be any of the above combinations.

They do emphasize, that they process applications in order of receipt, this meaning that if your AADSAS I.D. was in the 6000's, and submitted everything, they will not process it before another applicant who's in the 5000's who also completed his/her application. However, if the person in the 5000's application has incomplete file, they wil process the individual in the 6000's who completed his/her application. This is just to make the process move forward.

I think, completing the application will always be the best bet, regardless what your AADSAS I.D. is. Don't let the big numbers scare you, you could get your application processed before someone who applied back in June, whose application is still incomplete.

Regards

Mo007, where exactly did you get this number from? Unless I'm mistaken the only way to get your number is to call in and ask(in which case they would tell you your number is 2004076xx), or by waiting till they send you your packet after the app goes out to schools. If you talked to them and they said its in the 7600's, then wow....

When I sent my application through the web, I received a # on the confirmation page. This # was located on the top-left corner of the page.

Come to think of it, I think those high # could be also due to people sending their application multiple times accidently! on the web (its possible for those who never filled application on-line before), thats just another possible way of looking at the high #.

AADSAS doesnt really change much on the received web applications, it saves them the time as opposed to a mailed application, which they enter everything on the system. They just forward that web application (with obviously a quick check of everything being placed correctly) to the schools the applicant requested.

What??? Why would someone send in their application multiple times? Makes no sense.

DentalDream

If you read again, you will notice the word "Accidently!" somewhere.

It happens.

Ya I guess it is possible, but I doubt that 1500 applicants accidently sent in their applications in twice!

I just checked, and once you send in and pay for your application via the web, it is impossible to send it again. If you log on to your account (for applicatons that have already been sent), you will notice that the "pay and e-deliver" option is not there anymore. So I guess it isnt possible to send in applications more than once (unless you start a brand new application from scratch).

I know its a waiting game now for those of us who have submitted, but I wanted to know from someone who has already had their application processed. Do they change your status online from processing etc., to complete when it is sent out ?

Hi, I am the person who put up the 6700 number.
i get this number from the transition ID, is it the same as the number of applicants?

May I know which number do I call to find out my application status?
Thx

ecdoesit

If you need to check the status of your application, you will need to provide your personal information (i.e. Last Name, S.S.#) when you call AADSAS. That information will allow AADSAS agents to search your application on their system. Maybe then, its a good time to ask them what your I.D. # is?

Here is AADSAS client services #: 1800-353-2237

future, when i log onto my application (which was mailed out to schools over a month ago) it still says "Applications will be processed in order of receipt." and has the date it was created and the date it was delivered to AADSAS and that is it.

eco, i dont remember ever seeing a transition ID, where did that come from? Im wondering if maybe that is a different number than your application number.

After I submitted my app, AADSAS wouldn't give me a number until my app had been processed, not when it was sent in. I called to check the status on more than one occasion, and wasn't given my number until they told me it was ready to be sent to schools. I highly doubt that the numbers are as high as everyone is making them out to be. If that were the case, we would be looking at twice as many applicants as last year. I don't care what anyone says, there is no way that's going to happen.

Sometime after you submit your application online, you will recieve a letter from aadsas that gives you your aadsas #, you can also can them in advance and ask them for your number. But they won't give it to you unless you ask for it personally.
Also, if you have submitted the online application, the number will not appear on that page. The application is gone and may be processed but you can not check the updated status of application and your aadsas number when you log to your application. I hope this helps.

Hi guys
I submitted my application on Sept 6th online. I called and asked for my number but they gave that same answer that appeared on this thread:" we need additional 2.5 weeks after you submit your application for us to assign a number to you. THen another week or two for your application to enter the mailling cycle, then
some more time and your application will be mailed. Of course it will take about a week or two for the schools to open the envelops and from there it depends. "
Well as you can see the AADSAS customer rep was "quite helpful". And he also mentioned that when the application has entered one of these cycles AADSAS will mail me a hard copy of my app so I can look over it and it will contain my AADSAS number.

If people are relaying their AADSAS#s, then that indeed IS the number of applications that have been received.

Like I said before, that does NOT mean the application has been processed, but only that it has been received.

Why is there no way that applications are going to double? It isn't illogical, nor is it impossible. So why not?

I called the -1800 number (thanks Mo007). and my number is 3005, which is in line with what others have said. I doubt that applicant was in the 6700's just yet. I applied on August 11th and my application is going out this Friday. Not bad work for AADSAS. That's a little over 4 weeks.

No Problem mcataz

I send my application 2 weeks after you sent yours, that means they will forward my application 2 weeks from this coming Friday, at the latest I hope. We are still in September, the middle of the application processing period. We should hopefully get interviews before the holidays!

Gavin,

People are not relaying their numbers from AADSAS, as we have concluded that AADSAS will not give you a number immediately after applying, but rather after they have processed the application. They give us no indication of how many applications have been submitted but are yet to be proccessed.

Also, I feel it is illogical that there would already be 6700 applications submitted, and that there will be twice as many applicants as last year. An increase in applicants occurs over a period of time. Twice as many people aren't going to decide to become dentists from one year to the next. Maybe in the next 4-5 years, but not in one. Just my two cents.

Then they've changed since last year. Last year they would mail a "receipt form" back to the candidates who desired, and it gave the AADSAS number and informed the candidate that the application was received.

Either way I can PROMISE you that your AADSAS number does NOT mean your application has been processed. It only means that a file has been created for you in the computer.

And KD, you are partly right about the applicant numbers. But still, as the quality of applicants goes up, there will be a greater number of people who will have to reapply the following year for admissions.

Dentistry is THE hot career right now. Every other area has taken a huge hit, including medicine, law, business and investment banking. Dentistry hasn't--expect applicant numbers to really swell this year and next.

I called and spoke with Cynthia, who is the ADEA manager, and she said that as of today there are ~3890 applications.

At this time last year there were ~3075.

That's a rough increase of 800 applicants at this point in time from last year.

They are expecting 2250 MORE applications this year than last year (if the pace of this year continues and applicant trends from the past 6 years hold true).

That's roughly a 1/3 increase in the number of applicants over last year.
