Not sure if people have seen this yet, but it seems that a score of 300 is in fact the maximum possible score for the 3 step exams, though I haven't heard of anyone actually scoring that high. 265 = 99th percentile.

Never heard of any score even in the 280s.

For people scoring above the mean, its good news that the SD has gotten narrower over time, which essentially means that a score of 240 is almost just as good - percentile wise - as it was a few years ago when the mean score was lower.

Someone I knew got a 278 or something insane like that but yeah I've always wondered if there was some freak of nature out there that got a 290+ score.

Score = percentile
250 = 85th
255 = 91st
260 = 96th
265 = 99th
270 = 100th
275 = 100th
280 = 100th
285 = 100th
290 = 100th
295 = 100th
300 = 100th

You might as well try to compare the relative altitude of clouds.

The highest I know of is a 282 of a student from Ross University several several several years ago.

There was someone at Columbia that scored a 281 a few years ago and a guy from Australia on SDN had a 276. But I've never heard of anyone breaking 290.
