Hi - So yesterday I took an NBME exam and it didn't have an option of highlighting or marking the way Q bank does - is this true on the real thing? It would seem misleading for Qbank to have that feature if it isn't available on the real thing....

i'm no expert, but i just took the sample exam that the usmle posts on their website and you could annotate, highlight, and gray things out on the exam just like on qbank. i'm pretty sure the real thing works the same way.

Whew I was kinda worried - I was using our school's older computers, because they have one in each studyroom, so that could have been it. Thanks guys!

I took the practice exam (150 Q's) that you can take at the actual testing site, and I was not able to highlight a dang thing. I'm taking it in Houston on 7111 Harwin if anyone was interested. I went through the tutorial pretty fast, but I'm sure the highlighting feature was not available. I would like to know if anyone else experienced the same thing.

when i signed up to take the USMLE practice actually AT the testing site, they sent me an email that said the testing sites have not been upgraded to use the new 2006 FRED software (which has the highlighting feature) with the CBT practice exam. kind of annoying, since the whole reason to take it at the testing center is to get the same situation you would have at the real thing, in my opinion.

soooo... summary... for the real thing, yes you can highlight. for the practice test taken at the site, you cannot highlight.

i may be wrong, but i think the NBME practice exams are separate from the one the USMLE website has available, so maybe that's why you cant highlight.

That makes sense since the only people who knew to download the software were those doing the 150 questions.

It makes such a HUGE difference when you take the test - ADD really kicks in without the highlighting.

I find myself highlighting most everything I read now. Google news... emails I read... it has become second nature to highlight, and mark out. 👍 🙄

I'm taking it there too! Good luck 🙂
