What does this mean?

Does this mean if I'm missing a pre-req, I can take it after I graduate dental school? That would be within 5 years.

lol what? No. It means that if you're a non traditional applicant that took these prerequisites within the last 5 years and is applying to dental school now, their classes will still count. Otherwise, they would have to retake those courses.

No matter what, you have to have prereqs done before you enter dental school

As stated above, it means you need to have them completed within the 5 year period before dental school. That's why they're called pre-reqs, not post-reqs. Example: if you took biology in 2010 and apply this cycle, that pre-req would be more than 5 years old, and they would want it retaken.

In my experience though this requirement can be flexible - all of my coursework was >5 years old at the time I applied and it didn't really matter.

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense. 5 years seems like a giant window, that's what confused me.

Some of my course work is 7-8 years old, but having taken a higher level of a similar class more recently negates the fact that I took the introductory class so many years ago.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center SOD said they had to be within 5 years. UAB said otherwise. Kinda has me nervous.

I wouldn't be too worried since you'll have recent coursework. Is it only gen chem pre-reqs you will have taken 5+ years ago by the time you apply?

I was flying the contraption in my avatar, I don't think my cortex has been subject to much atrophy, but I can certainly understand their concerns. We shall see.

It's not the end of the world if I have to repunch, it just adds more time. I'm in the VA's VOCREHAB program using Ch.31 benefits and I'm not limited to 48 months of benefits. That said, I'm not getting any younger.
