I had my first interview today, and i think it went just fine, very conversational even to the point where the interviewer told me that I was his first interview of the year. The interviewer made it pretty clear that he usually does many interviews each year.

I want to know what ppl think, does me being his first interview help me, or will it just exacerbate any flaws that he was able to find in my application?

I really think you're thinking about it too much. There are so many factors that go into medical school admissions that this is one place you don't need to waste time worrying. Good luck.

lol. Don't worry about it. Just be yourself and confident in every interview, that's the best you can do. Don't analyze the interviewer 🙂

Where was ur interview if you don't mind sharing? 🙂

I hear that 99.9% of the people who interview first are not accepted. Think about it, if you were the med school, wouldn't you want to wait and see if there is anyone better out there?

...i just made that up, relax

i was someones first interview today too

med students said it was an advantage but i dont know how sure they can be of that

It was a NJ school and the guy was really nice; a doctor from a town that I frequent because of the restaurants there. In fact, as it turns we may have some mutual friends.

Just a word of advice for name dropping during an interview; its prob not worth it, because you dont know how your interviewer and your dropped-name get along- they may hate eachother. Wait till after the interview and double check with your friend if in fact he or she is on good terms with your interviewer.

hmmm... This is an interesting question. Having had my 1st interview recently, there are 2 things I would add.

1. Guessing what your interviewer thinks, or how they are going to rate you is totally pointless. Its out of your control so just do your damndest.

2. I figure it could go either way. Having interviewed people where I work. The first couple are hard to judge. It is only after I see several people that I feel like I can get an idea. Judging a person is relative to what else you have seen---you cannot make subjective judgements with no point of reference. So, being first has unknown effect. Depends on the interviewer.

Ever hear of the serial effect? Learned about it in psychology... So I hope you made a good impression!

xre- can u elaborate, this is the kind of stuff i was looking for

I'd say the fact that you got an interview this early in the process is probably a good sign in and of itself. If you were a marginal candidate, they probably would hold out on giving out an interview slot so early until they saw more of the applicants. The fact they gave you a shot so early should make you feel like you have a few strikes to give.

when you say your interviews were conversational, what do your conversations include: mostly things about you or about healthcare and medical practice in general?
