What is the correct procedure for discharging homeless people in the ER? like if their homeless and are stabilized in the ER are they just thrown back out onto the streets?

Thanks.

There's an EM forum. You would get a better response if you posted there.

In the ER that I volunteer at, we will give them a bus pass if they ask for it (which the regulars know to do), so that they can get somewhere. If they ask for food or a drink, we give them that as well. There are also social workers that are employed by the hospital, and they can help a homeless person find a place to go before they get discharged. As far as I've seen, that's really it, but it may be different in other hospitals.

The same where I volunteer at as well. Except for we give them a "cab pass" so they can get to the shelter or something...
