Actually, that does help quite a bit...

I know I shouldn't rush...just difficult as I go through what must be a "I'm about to be 30 and haven't done anything" crisis...I feel like my 20's have been wasted, and I'm kicking myself for it.

I can't even tell you how much I relate to this statement. I go through bouts of wanting to get this done as soon as possible so I will be younger than 40 by the time my career begins, and other moments when I realize that rushing would only hurt me, and, if I'm going to still be working anyway, there is no rush, and that the entire education process is not a prerequisite to being a doctor, but actually a part of it. Look, we needed to do other things/slack off/mature or whatever, before we realized we wanted to do this. We are not 22 and there is no going back or "making up for lost time," so we might as well just proceed at whatever pace we feel comfortable with and enjoy the ride.

I just can't believe how much I'm enjoying school right now...and I'm REALLY kicking myself for not being more serious about it the first time around.

I just wanted to update my first thread on this message board and let other non-trads know that it can be done...

I got my first acceptance today, and I will be a Doctor one day!

Thank you to the many of you that have helped me get to this point, it is sincerely appreciated.

Gonna be hard to study for Physics II for a few days!

Congrats! Looks like you made it for 2007 as you wanted.

Where did you get in?

Thats fantastic!!!! Where to?

I got the word from Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine today. Still have a few other applications out there.

Apparently, there were some major issues with one LOR and the USPS... 🙁

Thanks!

Where is that?

Any more info from KCUMB?

It's in TN.

KCUMB is eerily quiet.

KU was a complete fiasco...they told me I was complete, then 2.5 months later when I called to ask they said...oh no, the rules are a minimum of 3 LOR's...so you need one more...Mind you, this was after I had an email confirming that my MD letter and committee letter would be "sufficient"...

So, I just became complete at KU yesterday.

Yuck. Well, I wish that the opinions of current students mattered..... but I'm pretty sure they don't.
Good luck, I hope you get into either KCUMB or KU. Now that I've pretty much decided against using the Kansas Medical Student Loan, I'm almost second guessing my choice of KU over KCUMB. I really like KU, don't get me wrong, but I would have liked the opportunity to learn OMM, and the cost for KU vs KCUMB for the out of state student is the same. I guess I'll just try to learn some OMM through other channels.

Congrats!! I hope KCUMB or KU work out for you, too, so you can stay in your beloved midwest and be far away from yucky salty beaches. 😀 Seriously, I liked KCUMB last year. The more I think about it, the more I think I'd like a more integrated curriculum, too. With my traditional curriculum, sometimes it's hard to see the point of some of the things we're learning.

Have you called KCUMB or given them a letter of intent? They are your osteopathic school of choice, right? I'm guessing you might pick KU over KCUMB but you have a much better chance at getting into KCUMB....

Congrats, MJB. 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 🙂

Wow it's been a looong time since I last posted around here. I still have a couple of "to-dos" in this forum, which I guess I'll get to....um, sometime. 😀

Hope everyone else is doing well.

MJB, the fact that you went back and digged out your two-year-old thread shows your consistance 🙂 Good job. Now I wish I had started a thread like yours years ago, so that I could dig it up too!

Blee, where have you been? That is not good consistancy?

LOL. I've been buried, is where I've been. 😀 In a good way, though, mostly.

Not quite 6 years ago, I started this thread wondering if it could be done.

I post this today to let those out there that are now in the place I once was know that it CAN be done, and it goes a LOT quicker than you think.

You see, I finished my clinical rotations yesterday and will be graduating from Med School on 5/14. I just wanted to follow up to let anyone out there that even has a thought of doing this...if you really want it you can do it.

One word of warning. Don't blink. It will be over before you know it. Feels like just yesterday I was typing up the original post in this thread.

Happy epic bump, my friend! Congrats and welcome back to premed non-tradsville. Best of luck with residency and poke your head back in here every now and then and keeps us away from the shoal water.

A thread 6 years in the making and a great story too. If you don't mind sharing... what was your final GPA/MCAT when you applied?

Inexplicably ended up with an 8,8,8, T (I think it was a T on the WS....all I know is it was the highest score possible on that section). I had been getting more like a 10, 10, 6 on practices with Physics tearing me up.

If I recall, my GPA was somewhere around 3.4-3.5. I got all A's in my pre-reqs leading up to application, so 20 or so hours of A in Organic and Physics didn't hurt.

In case you're wondering, I did pretty decent in MS...and I was commuting 50 miles one way to school the first 2 years. I ended up calling myself the king of 89's cause I must have gotten 6-8 B's that were 89's.

Boards were ok...didn't do as well as I could have had I had a class ahead of me to kind of show me the ropes methinks, but I did fine. Could have done about anything. Chose FM.

Congrats! I wish I could say the worst is behind you, but it isn't. 🙂 Even FM interns do their share of hard work...

Congratulations!!! You are an inspiration. Hopefully, I can do the same one day and dig up my old "introduction" post!!!!!! 🙂
