Ok,
something rather incredible happened over this past weekend. I had been getting 9-10s on verbal on EK and AAMC over the course of the 9 weeks. One problem that I noticed was that I tended to lose focus in the middle of a passage and get distracted by little things like birds chirping outside my window, etc. But this sunday, I held my ears (no ear plugs) while reading and I got a 12. Hope it isn't a fluke. But my quesiton is whether holding ears is allowed during the real MCAT. I know ear plugs aren't allowed but can we hold our ears?

That's a funny question lol

I have to think that would be allowed.... I have the same problem... when I do verbal passage in the library, people talking or someone sniffling is terrible for my concentration....

last summer during the actual test I held my ears during verbal when people were talking outside

no one said anything to me

I didn't just cover my ears. I basically plugged my ears with my fingers. That helped tremendously.

hahaha, i was wondering about that too at some point since it really seems to help
I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to though, unless the test administrators think you have some built in device in your hands to give you answers

I don't see why not.

I'm pretty sure you can't use earplugs. Just cover your ears. 😀

holding ears is banned by AAMC, as it is deemed that you may be sending cryptic messages to other exam takers in the room.

take the CBT, they give you headphones! probably to drone out the obnoxious sound of typing.

It's best to practice around other people in a moderately quiet environment to best replicate exam conditions. I took all my practice tests in the stacks of the library where it was so stone silent. It took a little getting used to when I actually had to take the test in a large room of people.

I can just see the proctoring saying "Sir, please stop holding your ears."

I bet it's ok.

it's a little hard to write that way but I can not imagine there being a problem with that.
