Hey guys, I have a question(s). My freshman year wasn't really all that good. I was homeless and literally jumping from hotel to hotel. It's not that I didn't have money, it's that I didn't have anywhere to go. My credits took a hit between volunteering, school, and looking for new places to stay

I'm finishing up my degree in biotechnology and molecular biology from Indiana university with these stats-

3.77 cGPA
3.6ish sGPA
508-510 practice MCAT
URM- black and Puerto Rican.

100 hours radiology
100 hours fire dpt
100 hours crisis text
100 hours hospice visit

Clubs-
Latino American society
National Chem society
Deans list every semester since I've been here. (Middle of sophomore and up)

I'm worried because I started my 1st sem of college with 16 credits but had to stop a class so I ended with 11. My 2ns semester I had 16 and my 1st sem of 2nd year I had 9.

All in all-
Freshman
1st sem- 11 credits. 1 W
2nd semester 16 credits

Sophomore
1st sem- 3 credits 2 W

After that I've had steady 15+ credits and 3.8+ GPA.

My question is- how bad will my chances be hurt for the 3 Ws and being lower than 12 creds for a year?

I have retaken every W for an A

Thanks in advance.

I think you are golden as long as you do well on the MCAT. You will be able to explain those W's pretty easily with your background

I appreciate your input. Will the fact that I went under 12 credits be a red flag? An inconsistent record?

It will not he a red flag. You will give context to your situation in primary/secondary/where appropriate. You also have a sustained period of academic excellence since then. Focus on the MCAT and you will have plenty of schools to choose from

You're not merely golden, you're platinum.
Aim high. Start list with Harvard and Stanford. Seriously.

I'm still in undergrad, so my opinion means less. I just want to echo Goro's "platinum" statement. The fact that you were homeless and still managed a great GPA is impressive, and inspiring. I want to commend you on being resilient for your goals, and not letting life circumstances bring you down. You inspire me, and make me realize that my misery during semesters is nothing. I'm sure adcoms will see this and shoot you to the top of every list.

OP is platinum if they can get an MCAT at/above their practice tests. Let's not jump the gun!

i think ur fine in all seriousness

I think ur freshman year will be more viewed as "damn this kid was homeless/ bouncing around and still was dedicated to enroll/stay enrolled" vs oh he had drop and a w!?!?! NEXTTT
