Honors Thesis

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It will make you look better than someone who didn't do it

Does it look good on the application if I do honors thesis? I'm still gonna work on the same experiment all I have to do is just write a long paper...

Whatever you can do to set yourself apart from all the other pre-meds is fair game, so I totally think you should. If an admission is down to you and someone very similar this could put you over the top. At least that's what I'm hoping. At my school the honors thesis is mandatory

but the thing I dont understand is that if I do honors thesis I fill finish writing it at the end of my senior year (which will be after applying to med schools)
🙁

Hm... that is kinda tough... I'm guessing since you are doing research for a while you will be asked about it during interviews so you could always tell them in that case (yes im doing research about so and so and Im actually going to be writing my honors thesis on the subject...) and even if they don't ask I am sure you can sneak it in somewhere.

If you were to do it, would you do it only for the intent that it looks good on a med app, or is this something you really want to pursue?

Or on the primary activities section you could put this research and in the description say "I did such and such research and will write an honor thesis on it this year"

Research will come up in interviews regardless of whether or not you want to do MD/PhD

At my school, the Honors Thesis is required. My Honors directed actually suggested I do it during my junior year. I'm starting organic forensic research, so it's set. What year are you? If you have time, can you do it in your junior year? Or atleast some of it? Other than that, mention it in primary.

a thesis looks good; it looks even better if it is written well enough that it's potentially publishable (maybe not in a big name journal, but anything published is good).

The way I look at a thesis is if you would rather spend the (immense) amount of time you're working on it doing something else that is productive and you enjoy more, don't do the thesis. If you love what you're researching, do it. Along with a potential mention of it on your diploma (which they did at my school), you get some excellent skills you can use in your career, especially if you want to do some research in school or do a research-intensive specialty.

you can just mention that you will be doing it through the year. In my case i said that i had started in May and by the time my application was sent in June i had something to talk about in my primary application and by the time of my interview they asked me some questions about it.
