I graduated from 4 year Univeristy, with bad gpa/scgpa, both below 2.7
I'm currently retaking classes. I had done all the general prereqs:
Gen Chem, O Chem, Physics, Bio
I had taken almost no upper division bio class, only first sequence of genetics.
0 research

Currently Shadowing.
No DAT taken (October most likely)
I'm on the verge to make decisions for the next 2 years:
-Masters on Biology, not SMP but with thesis, which will fulfill research+graduate level courses ( Doing research or thesis makes a strong applicant or not?)
OR
-Postbac , which will raise my sgpa at least near 3.0 ( I was thinking maybe instead of master this is more convenient since I have not taken almost no upper division bio classes)

After researching different threads, seems like there is two different categories for GPA: undergrad and grad
And from my understanding even if you have 4.0 grad, if a student doesn't have minimum undergrad sgpa of 3.0, will likely not even have a chance to be considered.
Help/suggestions appreciated

This is a tough one. I guarantee there will be people who disagree with this but I honestly think you should do a masters w/ thesis. I think you may be spinning your wheels doing a post-bac with hopes of getting your gpa around a 3.0. I think starting a new chapter might be the best route. If you can successfully go through a masters and do really well, I think it will show maturity and that you have turned a corner and shown a trend of doing well academically. Plus, it's at the graduate level, which is more realistic in terms of material then undergrad or post-bac. If I were you, I would honestly run this one past an adcom though. Good Luck

Thanks for the reply and
Sorry what is adcom?? and I also think doing master with thesis will fulfill ECs in research and completion of master with high grade will make me a more competitive applicant. But what I'm worried is that from what I've researched during admission process they filter out the "bad applicants" through the undergrad gpa/sgpa and I thought that may affect me in the future.

I would do a master. It will help you to assess your abilities and at the end of the day you will have a fabulous degree in hand. Doing well in big classes will also let the adcome (admission committee) to see that you are ready for D-school.

Pos-bac is like working hard toward no particular objective.

Thank you for the reply. Seems like two people already favoring masters.
