Hey everyone just looking for some guidance for those who may have already started the process or have gone through it.

My plan is to jump to different states each summer for the 2 months and try to get any pharmacy internship I can.

Does anyone know the best way to try and find and internship ahead of time if you have no connections to the area? How far ahead should I be looking?

Im looking at living in Vegas for a summer, Miami for a summer, and possibly New York for a summer. These areas are not for sure. I will probably end up practicing in California, the intern hours are not needed for California since my school IPPE and APPE account for all the hours needed.

Thanks ahead of time.
Andrew

Are you already an intern or know someone who is an intern with any of the big retail pharmacies? If you can get the contact information of the DM/recruiter in those areas it'll make it easier.

Just do your homework and try to figure out your best bets for each summer. If you want Vegas during the first summer, then focus on Vegas. Of course, you'll need to get your intern license in each state, too, so you'll need to work on getting that taken care of ahead of time, too.

I had to set up all of my rotations by myself. I just cold called and cold emailed about a bazillion pharmacies until I found enough to fill out my rotations. The vast majority of calls and emails were not answered, and the vast majority of those that were answered were answered in the negative, but eventually I managed to fill out my schedule. I had to stay in one city for $$$ reasons so it was hard to find enough rotations, and some were not that great, but it shouldn't be too tough to find enough good rotations if you can go anywhere.

The hardest part was getting rotations at a hospital. They mostly already had agreements with local pharmacy schools so their slots were full. I did end up getting a good one because one slot was empty for some reason. Just be sure to fill the hard-to-find ones first so you have an open schedule, and worry about retail later.
