Hopkins, anyone?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Damn it!!! that means my rejection is in the mail. I did not get any call🙁

If you were reviewed at the same time as me and others who have reported receiving a decision, then you would've received your letter already. I think you probably weren't reviewed yet. (Or maybe that's my wishful thinking?)

lol I seriously think something fishy is happening with my application...cos no mail, email, call, letter, nothing yet. Something is so wrong, but I cannot place my hand on it...😕

I read on a Hopkins thread from last year that there were separate committees for Thursday interviewees and Friday interviewees. (Granted, an old SDN thread is not scientific evidence or anything. lol) If I were you, I wouldn't worry just yet.

Bwaaamp! 🙂 Sorry, didn't think a boring first bump would suffice.

1 more month!! I can hardly wait to find out either way.

For those waitlisted: Don't give up hope.

Honestly, half or more than half of the class ultimately comes off the waitlist. In fact, I believe the first round of acceptances (until March) is less than the actual number of people in the class.

I don't know why they do it this way, it really sucks, but if you were really excited about coming to Hopkins the process is far from over.

Has anyone with a Friday interview in late October or November heard back yet? I interviewed over eight weeks ago and no call or letter yet. It's driving me a bit crazy.

I don't think that's true. I remember reading somewhere that one of the AAMC requirements is that the school must have *at least* as many acceptances out as there are seats in the class by X date. I believe X date was some time in March.

OhMae -- I interviewed Dec. 13th and they said they'll be letting us know Jan 23rd. Maybe you'll be hearing by then as well.

I interviewed Nov 9th, got my letter today, dated Nov 27th.
Wait list bummer:scared:... actually, it was called alternate list

Does anyone know whether alternate list and wait list are the same thing? What is the movement on the alternate list?

bump....
super bump. Does anyone know the answer to the question above?

da me...

Sorry to hear about your alternate list! I was sure that you'd get in 😕.

I'd recommend calling Hopkins about this: the two are different, from what I remember Dr. Hicks (Hermione?) telling us on my interview day.

Good luck!

I was under the impression that the alternate list was just hopkins pretty way of saying wait list... I think it works the same way as waitlists at other schools as well...

bumpbump

anyone know why they are unable to render any decisions during the month of february? I thought that was what they said during my interview day, but i'm unsure.

Did any of you try to reschedule your interview from the day they gave you in the interview invite? I just got an invite and I'm supposed to go to jury duty on the day of my interview. Hopefully I'll either be able to reschedule my interview or jury duty.

I think you shouldn't have much trouble bumping out of jury duty if you call and kindly explain to them that Hopkins invited you to interview for medical school and it is uberimportant.
good luck

For those of you who have already interviewed at Hopkins...approximately how many people were there on the interview day?
Thanks.

Yes, I guess I wasn't clear, I meant that even though they are on a rolling admissions schedule they don't start really filling up the class until March, and many of the people that are waitlisted are quite truly placed "on hold" until they can evaluate the class as a whole, but may get in later. And even in March they don't go too far over their number.

Anyway, the point is much or most of the class comes off the waitlist.

Thanks LovelyMD. So, would you estimate that approximately 800-850 people are interviewed total? Or is it less than that?

Thanks again LovelyMD! I guess I was just trying to figure out what one's chances are of being accepted after getting an interview...if it was grim (like 1/6 or 1/8) or if there was a little more hope (1/3 or so...)!!🙂

anyone who submitted their hopkins secondary on the deadline receive a completion notice yet?? im still wondering if i missed the deadline--but have no closure

So I have a question... anyone who received a call from hopkins... did it show up on your caller id as a private number??? I was just sitting in class and a private number came up.. and i didn't think anything of it... and now i'm having a comeapart thinking about it... what do you think?

Mine didn't show up as a private number. It came up as a number with a 410 area code.

thanks! you put me at ease... sorta..

and congrats on the acceptance!

My app and letters were in a couple of months before the deadline, and I never heard back from them. Not even a notice as to whether I was complete.

I called and e-mailed multiple times, too.

hrmmm...in response to ^, i might e-mail my pre-med committee and see if there is anything they can do...its bleHHH to not even know of our completion status ...boO!

I went to a small school. No premed committee, just me.

Does anyone know when the next batch of acceptances goes out? Do they notify by e-mail/snail-mail/ or phone? Thanks!

Also, to those that were accepted, did you guys do anything other than wait after you interviewed or did you keep sending them updates and other correspondences?

Those of us that interviewed the first week of december are supposed to hear either today or tomorrow.....meh. And apparently they call people that were accepted. If you don't hear anything then you were waitlisted or rejected and your get your letter in the mail within a couple of weeks.

does interview season end in feb or march?

also, are there any bullett-proof vests that can be comfortably worn beneath the suit? the one 50 cent advocates won't cut it. thanks

I dunno, but I got an invite for February 1st, so they're still giving them out.

How did you guys find out the exact date you would be hearing your decision?

and.. I tried to ask this previously.. but no one knew.. What is the reason for the lack of decisions being made in february??

can anyone confirm the fact that ppl rec'd calls of acceptance in the last couple of weeks (in jan) for interviews that were held in december?

If this phone call thing is true for December interviewees, looks like I got wait listed or rejected. Oh well.

My interview was first week of December and I got a call last week about it. Can't speak for the rest of the month though.

im gonna have to echo what 1956goldtop just said....crap! guess i should be expecting a letter in the mail in the next couple of weeks. i really hope i dont get rejected.

when did you interview? I was at the end of November. I thought my interviews went wonderfully. My student interview went for like an hour because we were getting really into some deep issues, and my faculty interview was lots of fun... I guess I would be more than honored with a waitlist. Hopkins was honestly more of a pipe dream anyways.

just curious, i mean obviously we are all very interested in hopkins, but would u go to hopkins if u got in? to be completely honest, im not sure that i would. i would heavily consider it, since hopkins owns other schools with its reputation, but im not sure that quality of life would be good. baltimore is more sketchy than other cities and the area directly surrounding the campus is not really friendly-looking. plus did the students really look that happy...? im just wondering what other ppl who interviewed there thought about hopkins overall.

i just went through this thread, and it seems like only 2 ppl were rejected post-interview. has that happened to anyone else? is rejection post-interview a common thing at hopkins? also, can we call hopkins to find out what's up with our applications?

I would definitely go to hopkins if I got in. I sent them a LOIntent. I have been trying to figure out when exactly my committee meeting is.. does anyone know how to find this out without being... annoying?

Not sure, but I interviewed in late November/early December and I'm pretty sure the lady said that we would hear something by the end of this month (i.e. in a few more days).

Good luck goldtop... I still have a couple months until I get my decision (Interviewed in early January).. the wait is KILLING MEEEE

Hey guys, I have my Hopkins interview this week (a bit late I know!) Any advice about the interview(s)? Thanks!

Super laid back interview! seriously. Just have fun. You will have to talk to some MS3 and 4 students while you are waiting in the afternoon, but no pressure. Just be yourself and try to have fun, thats what they seem to be looking for. I walked out very happy on interview day. It is easily my first or second choice at the moment.
