I will be applying in rad onc this upcoming cycle, and among other criteria, geographic constraints will restrict me to the Northeast.

In inquiring about programs, my advisor (a very well known academic rad onc), told me that there were 7 "elite" programs, and JHU was among them, in terms of academic reputation. Yet, when I looked at the rankings thread, there was some debate about where this program lies.

Do you guys agree with this assessment? And does it have good job placement in academic positions? Anybody know where recent graduates have gotten jobs?

Much appreciated.

Overall, Johns Hopkins is a premier academic medical center. Historically however, it's reputation in Radiation Oncology has not been as good as in other fields (Medicine, Surgery, etc,). A few years ago, I don't think it was even on the radar for a "top 7" program.

More recently however, I believe it has made some incredible strides forward. Dr. Deweese is by all accounts an excellent chairman and scientist. Also, I think their faculty are very good and their residents (at least the ones that I have met) are first-rate. However "top 7" is still controversial but I believe they are nearly there -- certainly closer than ten years ago.

Just curious, what were the other "6" top programs on his list?
